**Being a native of New Orleans I have to laugh whenever
I see the Creole references for regular negroes. smdh
I've never called myself Creole even thou my family's ancestors happen to be . Funny how some people say Creole like it isn't black. Its just like when some African people say they aren't black or Jamaican isn't black...smh Black is black. No matter what your complexion is. Self hate is terrible.

This type of logic reminds me of the "Brown paper bag" test. If you darker than the bag you can't attend college or be around certain black organizations..smh Some Black people still thinks its slave times when the light slaves were house slaves and the "darker" slaves had to work the fields. The "light" slaves still got their ass beat just the same. Black is black and some black people need to realize this. Non-black people don't look at us and say wow is she creole...lol..They will think that woman is black. Time to grow up and let our future generation grow up without complexion issues.

while i agree with u, what black african or black jamaican have u ever heard say that they weren't black, huh??! get yo facts straight ma.
The Knowles have to be one of the most color struck families I've ever heard of. First it was the lie about Beyonce having naturally blonde hair, then it was the thing about people not liking her because she has a light complexion. I don't even think little Daniel would be seen in public if he hadn't turned out so white with the blue eyes. Does anyone in the Knowles camp EVER mention any of Mathew's family? Are they ever seen? Everything is always about Tina's relatives and them being Creole.
Isn't claiming to be Creole just celebrating their heritage?
People of other black heritages will claim it but I dont think they are denying their blackness, ex jamaicans, trinis dominicans cubans etc. What so different about Creole people?

Is it because they are so light?
They have a separate culture from other African-Americans. They retained many traditions from their French and Spanish ancestors' culture as well as their African and sometimes Native-American culture. Another thing that sets them apart, and I believe gives them a feeling of having an elevated status, is the fact that they were very often free people of color who were able to own property, slaves and have some type of recognition in the courts. Historically they are part of an elite society of blacks. Even during times of slavery they were allowed to attend balls and other social events that other blacks were not allowed to attend. They take a great deal of pride in their rich culture and I believe it's rightfully so.
