Now YOU have lost your ever loving mind. Michael had the TOTAL package and El was the crooner, not much of a dancer and if you see the Rhythm of the Night video, a lot of his little dances were MJ like. Mike created things that were never imagined, broke records, made history (not just the album). Thing is that MJ had to adjust to his voice change and he did that well. I don't know how well El sang before his voice change, because we know Mike could blow old folks out the water at 11 years old.
What a lot of you all don't know is that El had a lot of training on his voice. When they first signed to Motown and did the "DeBarges" album (which did not include James) El sounded very....timid like.(I have the album). He sounded very weak. Motown must've made that lion come out of his chest because he sounded a hell of a lot better on "All This Love." His voice was AMAZING!
1. El's range is better, and he has gotten better over TIME
2. Michael came out BOOMING, but had to adjust to his voice change.
So umm, sorry, DeBarge didn't shit on MJ.
I look at the Genius in an artist and both El and MJ are geniuses, but MJ will shut it down.
But I will say this, Mike's voice is unique and stands out. El and Bobby sound damn near alike. If you ever heard "Queen of My Heart" on the "In A Special Way Album", that is Bobby at the end hitting all those notes, not Eldra.!
ETA: Jermaine Jackson help put DeBarge on, indirectly, so there is no need to make it out to be some vendetta.
