Before acting, McCoy-Misick began her career as a model doing fashion shows in churches and high schools in her native home Chicago. She made her acting debut as the lead in Reasons, an independent film directed by Monty Ross. In addition to acting, McCoy has also appeared in several music videos including Tupac Shakur's "Toss It Up", Calvin Richardson's "True Love," Sisqó's "Incomplete", Lil Jon and Ice Cube's "Roll Call" Video clip, and Ludacris' "Number 1 Spot." McCoy also recorded the single "Would You?" with rapper Benzino. Also, LisaRaye was in Ginuwine's video, "Last Chance" in May 2009. She is credited as Lisa Raye in the beginning of the video.[2][9]

Lisa Raye talks about how her divorce affected her 20 year old daughter and that Premier Michael Misick reneged on his promise to pay for her daughter’s education. She explains why she would not date someone who doesn’t have money:
“I was private plane and champagne sipping before I met him. Everybody wants to be with a winner… you have your list of what you are going to accept and what you’re going to take…just look at the white girls, the white mamas, what do they tell their kids. You date this lawyer, this doctor. They rear them differently. Why is it so bad when a black girl thinks the same way? My mother wants me to make sure I’m with somebody that’s wealthy and healthy that’s going to treat me well. Just because he has money doesn’t mean I’m negating the fact that he has personality, he’s loving, he’s generous, he’s kind..”
Lisa Raye gets into detail about the problems she has with Rocsi, but admits that it’s not the woman’s fault. She says Rocsi is almost the age of her daughter and didn’t know what she was getting herself in the middle of.
