I know this has been rumored for a while now. I don't personally know this to be true, but what does seem to be true is Tyler's "Good Deeds" that really seem to be apart of his walk as a humanitarian. I'm a resident of Georgia, and have actually heard so much more of his altruistic character than the contrary. I hope it continues.

I am so impressed with Tyler Perry the man and how he doesn’t flaunt.
Tyler Perry showed up alone and helped this woman.
Most other people, preachers included,
would have rolled 5 to20 deep.
From the article;
“I’d never seen anything like this,” said salesman Michael Bortvit. “I had left for the day. I turned around and came back and met with Mr. Perry, who drove up alone in his Land Rover.”

I've heard this about him, too. The husband of an old friend of mine was a crew member for a couple of Tyler's films and didn't have anything positive to say. He's a pretty nice guy so to get on his bad side, something must have gone down on those sets. I never had a chance to get the details since my friend moved overseas and we lost contact. Tyler does do a lot of chairty work though...so who knows.
