. MSNBC host Ed Schultz announced tonight that, as of April, he will no longer host his weeknight primetime show. But Schultz will stay with the network, hosting a two-hour program on Saturday and Sunday nights, he said.
"And in the big finish tonight, a big personal and professional announcement. MSNBC will be expanding its weekend programming and this opens a big opportunity for 'The Ed Show' and my brand," he said. "I will be leaving this time slot at 8 PM ET and moving to Saturday and Sunday from 5 to 7 PM."
In a statement, MSNBC president Phil Griffin said he was "thrilled for Ed and happy to be expanding our weekend programming," adding that he was "looking forward to having Ed’s powerful voice on our network for a long time.”
He says he volunteered when the new slot opened up. He also just got the big GET of being the first to identify and interview the guy who made the 47% interview. They have to believe a lot of people will follow him to that new spot where they usually show some prison show.
I hope they don't try to move one of those earlier shows to prime time. Even though I wasn't a big fan of Ed, I'd rather watch him at 8 than Rev. Al, or anyone of those people from The Cycle.
They seem to be grooming Joy Ann Reid for a show.
Ed's wife has been sick, with cancer, I think. That is why he is cutting back on the show. He mentioned during the last of the election coverage that he had been on the road too much and he wanted to take more time to spend with his wife.
I hope Ezra Klein doesn't take that spot, he brings solid analysis, but he lacks passion. I'm going to miss Ed on weekdays, I just hope they don't put the cycle on in his place, I can't stand SE Cupp.

I couldn't agree more. I liked Ed, I'll watch him on Saturdays. I also like Ezra Klein, but he lacks the charisma needed for his own show. And S.E.Cupp .. I'll keeps it polite and say, I admire her confidence.
