Eric Dyson called on his Michelle Obama booty comment

Paul Porter says TV One 'After Party' analyst's comment was inappropriate.



*Media critic and pundit, Paul Porter says TV One's coverage of last night's DNC convention can be summed up in two words -- Gluteus Maximus.

In a statement to EUR, Porter goes on to say:


TV One's "After Party" analysis of Michelle Obama rear end by Michael Eric Dyson, lacked class while lowering the low standard for television news.

Dyson's admiration for Michelle Obama's figure was off base and deserves an apology from TV One and and the George Town Proffessor.

It's tough enough trudging through opinion based biases on a daily level with pundits and analyst, Dyson has officially added sexism to mainstream media's divorce of discussing real issues.

Michael Eric Dyson's referenced a recent trip to Europe, by labeling European women with flat rear ends and was proud to see Michelle Obama's, "gluteus maximus" as a symbol of the beauty of African American women. Education and common sense are obviously two distinct values and Dyson's comments are living proof.

This kind of mess is exactly why I refuse to watch the convention on TV One. Kudos to him for admiring the AA female body, but during the Democratic Convention coverage is not the time to talk about it. Especially when he's talking about the next First Lady.

Michael Dyson gets on my nerves anyway. He reminds me of the character Damion Wayans played on In Living Color. The prisoner that used a lot of big words, but wasn't saying anything.

M Eric Dyson was out of line and all women especially black women should call him on it. As a curvy sister; I appreciate the love and attention I receive from the brothers but it must always be guided by respect.
We know that Dyson loves black women -- but you should always respect them.

i'm torn on this. Brother Dyson is one of the smartest, most relevant, and SINCERE academics out there. he isn't all talk, he isn't big ideas - he is about ACTION.

people slip up, yes... but i have to wonder if there's something more to this. he calculates every word, and is cautious of every action.

I'm in the minority here. I felt his comments were taken out of context and he meant no harm. I honestly thought he was just giving her a compliment, despite he could've used better wording.

Maybe you haven't been exposed to African American intellects but Dyson is most definitely not One of them. The man is an idiot and I am not surprised

I wonder what would happen if a surrogate of a white candidate said how on a recent trip to Europe, he saw many white women wearing natural straight hair and is proud to see these beautiful European women as such, as opposed to Michelle Obama (or black women) wearing relaxed hair or wigs.

No, I don't wonder what would happen. He would get crucified, labeled as racist for the rest of his life, thrown out of public/political sphere, and LSA would have a another fest of: Those goddamn white racist crackas.

What a disgrace. This is terrible coming from him. He lost major points in my eyes and I respect his intellect greatly. He knows better than this...openly lusting after a married woman who may one day be our First Lady...or any lady for that matter on television (or anywhere) is a slap in the face to his wife, his marriage and to women in general.

...and I used to think Dyson was one of the few black intellect's who practiced what he preached. smh, maybe he just slipped up a bit.
