I know two people at work who said they would move to Canada if President Obama was re-elected. I think many of us have read comments from people saying they would leave the country, for Canada or somewhere in Europe, if President Obama was re-elected. Congresswoman and former republican presidential candidate Michelle Bachmann said she would move to Switzerland if Barack Obama was re-elected.
This morning, I tried to find out if my co-workers were going to make good on their promise to leave the country. The first one said "you people just love to rub our noses in it don't you?" and walked off. The second co-worker laughed said of course he wasn't leaving, although he was very disappointed in the outcome. I asked him, since he considered President Obama a socialist and a proponent of higher taxes and a proponent of abusive national health care system, why would he consider moving to Canada which has much higher tax rates than the US and has a socialistic national health care system. He turned red and said he never thought about it that way. I did not press further.
It seems crazy to me for someone to say they dislike President Obama because he is a socialist and advocates higher taxes, then turn around and say they are going to move to a European country. Don't they know that Europe is the epitome of socialism with free health care, free education up to the university level and many other freebies supported by the highest sales and income tax rates in the world?
I don't want to call people racist, but when they say they don't like Obama because of his socialistic health care and taxation policies, then say they want to get away from him by moving to a European country that is outright socialist with extreme taxes, I have to assume that they are just uncomfortable with a black president.
Do any of you personally know people who said they would leave the USA if President Obama won? Are they packing? Are they moving to Canada or to a socialist European country that offers free health care and charges very high taxes?
