Ricky Dillard
I just discovered him last week, so dont beat me up. But I watched him and his choir on the stellar awards and I cant stop watching it on my tivo. Has anyone seen him live? Is he affiliated with a church? I can guess by his dress and style, he is a step-in-the-name-of-love chicagoan. Am I right? Who is he?
this video is kinda blurred but you can see the choir rippin it up, especially at the end. lol

He is from Chicago; however, he's been in Atlanta for the last four or five years directing different church choirs. He lost his home in Atlanta due to a fire.

Re: Ricky Dillard
IT is hard for the musicians with the drive to become a Gospel act to have a church home. Musician fame often conflicts with Pastor ego.
My momma was at a church in Baltimore City about 6 years ago where a prominent minister preached against church employed musicians having their own gospel groups. There use to be lots of musical programs at churhces. Ever since then they disappeared.
Pastor ego's are a bit over the top. They want the musicians to be totally at their will.

Re: Ricky Dillard
That's sad... Egos always cause problems... and we're called to be humble. The worst church services I've ever been to were ones where there was no music ministry, yuck... Dry, dry, dry. I couldn't wait to leave.
I'm not as familiar with Ricky Dillard as I could be, but I do remember his group having a popular track out a few years ago that I liked, think I have it saved around here somewhere.

The issue isn't, necessarily, one of a pastor's ego; it's too simplistic to say that.
Fact is, when one is asked to be a musician at a church (a lead minstrel, praise & worship leader, etc.) a conflict can arise when the demands of the music industry (Gospel or otherwise) interfere with demands of said church.
Whether it's having to meet with business execs, on Sundays, to discuss finalizing a deal or having to go on tour to promote their latest album, it can be stressful on a church.
BTW, when a pastor has those same obligations, it can be JUST as difficult.

Yeah I saw Ricky and his choir on BET recently. I just can't get into him at all, he comes off as being WAY too sweet for my taste.

I'm just learning about Mr. Dillard, and I'm impressed. Does anyone know who his musical director is?

Too sweet or too chicago? Its possible both, but chicagoan men are definitely like what I saw at the awards.
I cant tell with him because of that.

I don't know how any of the MOMs or MOFA juggle both the duties at their home church and recording.
I'm sure there's some kind of system set-up to make it work on behalf of the pastor, the musician and the congregation.

I believe Kirk Carr left Los Angeles and moved to Houston, TX. Kirk Franklin was under Tony Evan's ministry. I believe he's serving as one of the youth pastors at Bishop Kenneth Ulmer's church in California. Don't if he still holds this position for 2008.

I watched the Stellars and I love that song"Ever Shining in my Soul"
I was pissed at how he acted, what was up with all the Diva Model walk/Catwalk,gyrating and shaking?smh Ive never liked him as an artist, because i have seen him in concert at a church in DC yrs ago and hes all about showing off like he was doing on National Television.
I think the show was goin good until he came with his finale(sashay shontay)lol
A friend of mine went to the stellars I asked her what was the atmosphere like while he was up there doin his thing and she said ppl were laughing at him, some was in shock and some loved it.
I just sat and watched the television with my mouth dropped open like wth is he doin?LOL
I think that he makes nice songs, but I also think its fair to say all gospel music aint worship music!!!:xena_banana :<<<<<<<<<<<<Ricky Dillard
