Re: Ricky Dillard
I know I am resurrecting and OLD thread, but I used to sing with New G back in the day. Ever since I was 14, I had been wanting to be apart of his choir and I had the pleasure of meeting him at the GMWA and I led a Sind during Nightly Musical and he found me and asked if I would come to his rehearsal.. I was only 20 at the time, and had no idea how I would commute, but I made it happen. I was very amazed at all the "men" or should I say, "kids" and how they were always cliqued up, and I must say, it was an eye opener for me. Ricky is the most nicest person that I had ever met, but I was extremely overwhelmed by the flamoyant behavior. I was only in the choir for 2 years and when I graduated college, I relocated. I still love him and support his ministry, but it is what it is. He is a true Chicagoan, and all choirs are known to be over the top.. Ricky tops them all.. Yall think his performance at the Stellars was out-there....We had to sing at Carthage College (white people) and he clowned all over those folks!!!!

Re: Ricky Dillard
Watched the performance on Youtube. It's not my preference so it's kinda "yucky" to me :(
But, that is exactly what it was ... A Performance ... A Show to entertain people. Is that what the Stellar Awards is all about? Who is the best performer?
The glistening white suit was a bit over the edge ... because I've never really liked the "pimped out" look ~ but to each his own.
The hat and strut off the stage was "way over the top." Watching this choir and their director, Ricky Dillard perform did not draw my heart closer to Jesus Christ - it just made Ricky and the choir stand out. But, it seems with all the fame and money to be made ... most of the gospel music today is entertainment and not worship. Flesh gets lifted up instead of Jesus.
There was a season when the minister of music at my former church was on sabbatical and the pastor brought in someone well trained in music to bring the praise team to (as they say) "another level".... I'll never forgot the look on our faces one Sunday morning after he'd been there a while, when he jumped off the stage into the aisles ~ actually it was more like "Leaped". It was like a James Brown concert - haha.
Guess it's OK ... as long as you know what it is. There is a place for shows like this ... I think they call it Broadway.

Re: Ricky Dillard
Yes, his house in GA burned down.. Its rumors that Bogle did it, and that Ricky even did it himself. But no one knows.
