Some people will take any old half-cocked relationship in the spotlight for the sake of having examples of black love. those of us who already have strong examples in our lives know better than that.
Re: I didn't know R. Kelly played basketball with Ben Wilson
The filmmakers were on talking about this last week. Such a senseless murder, because Ben bumped into the dude he killed him The guy was remorseful and has been released from prison. He spoke about his family being hurt as well. Just a pitiful AVOIDABLE situation all the way around.
Re: I didn't know R. Kelly played basketball with Ben Wilson
R. Kelly being in that documentary was a joke.
He (Kelly) was a juvie delinquent, still is barely literate and pissing on underage girls.
The film-makers threw him in the show to add some star power to it. R.Kelly was not a basketballer in any sense of the word, nor did he sing at Wilson's funeral - he was in the Kenwood H.S. Choir singing with the rest of the group - and the rendition of Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday on the documentary he said he sung, was the Boys II Men version which came out in 1991, while Wilson was killed in '84.

Actually the Boyz II Men version is just a replica of the song from the Cooley High movie/soundtrack which came out in 1975. Same lyrics, same melody, it's just that the Boyz II Men version is heavily harmonized. When my older cousin died in 1986 (he was only 19 at the time), this song was sung at his funeral by one of his homeboys. Now I don't know if R. Kelly sung at this man's grave-site like he stated in the documentary or not, but I'm just saying.

In the documentary, Kelly sang the B2M version, not the Cameron version from the movie (Coochie's funeral). The two versions are very different.
But Kelly told so many self-inflating lies in the movie, this was just another one.
