His mother was very strong, and she helped to calm the student body when some students threatened to seek revenge and kill Dixon and Moore after Ben died.
The saddest part is when she said she locked herself in a room and talked to the Lord for hours. Mary Wilson
His mother was very strong and she would just break your heart. She campaigned against violence for years and you could see how this tragedy took it's toll on her.
Ben Wilson's death is still considered a great Chicago tragedy. He was so promising that he experienced tremendous amount of jealousy. There are Chicago sportswriters that will tell you that they have never seen such talent since.
I didn't know that his son dropped out of college. I hope that he is doing well in life and is somewhere happy and Blessed.

Reason: Grammar...
Ben Wilson's mom moved to Mississippi so her other children wouldn't be the next victims of violence. When she died she was buried in Chicago where some of Ben's relatives still live.
Side Note: Len Bias was another tragic story, but in an interview Bias was doing cocaine throughout the day with his teammate. I don't know if the teammate introduced Bias to drugs but when you have two people shooting up drugs together something is bound to happen.
Both Ben and his mother are buried in Chicago's Oakwood Cemetery. he cemetery isn't far from Simeon. Wilson rests in plot No. 137 in the Garden of Meditation section, not far from his beloved mother, Mary, who passed in December 2000.

Ben's girlfriend and mother of his 10 week old baby Brandon at the time of his death when on to college at Central State University in Ohio and became a Delta.
The coach and Ben's mother Mary were very disappointed when Ben got her pregnant in highschool. Brandon didn't know his grandmother Ms. Mary Wilson had died and didn't get to go to her funeral.

Re: The Late Ben Wilson's Son Brandon Wilson
see.. that is wrong about his mother dying and not even knowing her grandson.. where was the love and forgiveness.. that is really sad.. actually it makes his death VERY tragic at this point.. his baby mama ought to be ashamed.. how horrible.. and if his son was born in 1983..what was he doing in univeristy of maryland.. wouldnt he be 26 now..

I remember reading an article where the coach and mother were disappointed that she had gotten pregnant. I did wonder if she was trying to "snag a baller" by getting knocked up. (I admit if I was his parent I would be pissed.) I knew a few girls who had done this but they did this in college, and I think only one of the guys went on to a professional career. None of the others girls' baby daddies went pro.
Then again they were in high school where things happen, and it takes two to make a pregnancy.
Each MVP basketball player received a book from Mary Wilson, Ben's mother, who died of multiple sclerosis about Ben. Path Press, a black owned publishing company, published the book.
Ben Wilson's mom Mary Wilson started a foundation in memory of Ben. She refused to take a salary from foundation and spoke to advisors after some mishaps with people she trusted. She had hired some teenage girls to help manage it and they claimed they were taking envelopes home to log them in but instead they were taking donations.
After Ben died, some girls claimed that they were dating him or he was their boyfriend. (I guess we have a tendency to idolize athletes because they are popular but he was also a teenager who had the same normal teenage behavior that we all did)
