Be careful letting kids walk around with expensive electronic devices
I was in the candy store at the mall yesterday getting me fix of gummy sours when this woman comes up to me asking if I saw an iPad laying around, I said no. She then asked the shop keeper if he had seen an iPad laying around and he said no, maybe a customer picked it up. The woman then asked the little bit that was with her, who looked to be about 7 or 8, if he was sure this is where he had it last? He said yes, I put it down right here. The mom looked like she as about to cry and the little boy looked like he gave away all the fuks he had to give the day before. Why would he need to be distracted with an iPad for a short trip to the mall?
It just made me realize that his day and age, kids put no value on iPad, iPods, etc because they don't know a time when a cell phone was a luxury. We have made ourselves believe that it is a necessity. I see people pushing toddlers time that playing with ipads/iphones in strollers all the time. I can just see some thug running by and snatching out of the child's hands.
I hope they were able to find the ipad but if I was a betting woman I would say the likely hood is a big fat no.

That's why children don't need shit like that. I treasure and worked hard for my ipad and kids could care less because they don't work.
My brothers stay losing iPods and iPhones and my parents keep buying. Smh

Kids don't value it because they didn't have to work to pay for it. Parents these days are so stupid. Aint no way I'm about to buy a kid a iPad, esp. a lil kid who would leave it somewhere to be stolen. I see people pushing strollers with iPads in their kids hands too. People are just show offs. I'm convinced that most people who buy apple products just do it because it's apple.

I finally got my galaxy s3 and my brother has one so my 2 year old nephew knows how to work it and take pics and play games. He caught himself trying to grab my phone and I mushed him, told him to grab his parents phone cuz I ain't the one.
Re: Be careful letting kids walk around with expensive electronic devices
I never had a phone until I was like 16/17
People don't teach their kids the value of a pound/dollar now, they just want to keep up with the latest shit and not have their kids whinging at them 24/7.
My kids could whinge all they like, they aren't getting shite like that until 16. It is what it is. I want them appreciate the free things in life.

True. I miss those days, especially when we had to go to the phone box to make a call if we were out. In my day something like this happened with a 'My Little Pony' instead, in the library. I was so ready to pick it up but that girl came running back.
Re: Be careful letting kids walk around with expensive electronic devices
I had a child flip out and have a tantrum because I wouldn't let him see my iPad. I told him 'no' and he flipped out.
1. I didn't know him
1. I was using it
1. It's mine
1. I don't have to let him see shit
He was in full meltdown mode. I just put my earbuds in and kept on reading my chapters. Mother needed to deal with that because I'm sure she wouldn't offer up a dime if he damaged it.
Re: Be careful letting kids walk around with expensive electronic devices
My child values his iPad & all of the things that are given to him b/c I instill that in him. But at the same time, you can't expect a CHILD to be responsible for something that valuable while in a store. And play time with those items should be in moderation anyway. Granted, most of my child's usage is on educational stuff.
Some parents use those gadgets to so that they don't have to deal with their child being a child in public, like a pacifier.

Academics and researchers are saying that this constant zoning out and constantly being distracted is having negative learning and retention impact on children at school. For instance, they have an A.D.D. like disability because they can't pay attention to real live people interacting with them.
This is sad. We're just turning out children into stupid drones who can't think their way out of a paper bag.
Re: Be careful letting kids walk around with expensive electronic devices
I see people buying ipad for 2 and 3 year old to and I just smh. I do realize people can do what they want to with their money, but kids come to expect to get 400-500 electronics now, they really don't appreciate this stuff at all. I remember it was big shut if you got a cabbage patch doll, now you ain't shyt in the street if you don't have a iPhone. Times have defiantly changed.
If I am ever blessed with a child, they will have to work for this stuff or at least pay half on it,so they will have some investment in it.

I also wouldn't be shocked if it plays a part in stunting kids development of social skills. We don't talk to each other anymore, just text, twit, tweet, queef, whatever. When I'm on the train, I notice that over half the people on the car have their eyes glued to something in their hands. This is the example we show to kids, so that is all they know.
