Lsa moms i need some breast feeding tips

So I'm home with my little prince and hes doing so good! hes only 3 days old and all is well except I'm not doing very good breastfeeding rite now hes doing enfamil but I would love to exclusively breastfeed. The problem really is it hurts like hell when he latches like I wanna scream the idea of him on my boob actually scares me lol. I am hoping today since my breast are now more engorged it will b better tips any1?

i think they have a cream that you can apply to soften the nipples but if youre not used to breastfeeding, the first few days can be hard. it gets easier once the baby learns to latch well.

Congrats!! I was in the thread you made asking about induction. How was your delivery ? Hope it wasn't too bad.
As far as breast feeding, I had issues with it too. My son ended up a similac baby and he grew up just fine. So if the breast feeding doesn't work out in the end, don't beat yourself up about it and don't let others make you feel bad.

My only advice is first talk to your dr and make sure is nothing wrong. But it seems to me you will get used to it. There are also creams for breastfeeding moms to put on the nipples, that helped tremendously. Sorry I cant be more specific but it has been 16 years since I breast fed. Congrats on your lil man enjoy it all because it goes so fast.

I have no tips as I have no kids I know it can be hard but I commend your for trying. Congratulations on your little one!

Its just something you have to try and deal with, creams like the ones posted helped my cousin, give it time if it still doesn't work them maybe you should just pump it out and give it to him lol

I'm breastfeeding still with my 6month old. Don't give up. Ask your doc at the checkup for a latch coursr or nurse that can properly teach you how to breastfeed. I also gave up for 1 day & felt guilty for not sticking with it. Our breast are made for nursing so you can do it. It takes time to.get over the soreness

It takes a few days to get use to it but the cream will help.

Your nipples have to get used to it. In between feeding put Vaseline or lanolin on your nipples. Ice for pain, No more than 20 minutes and just on the nipples. I also "played"with them by tweaking them. Whatever you do, don't let them crack and bleed it will be so painful when the baby latches on that you will not want to breastfeed. Also, make sure he's not just latching on to the tip of your nipple, try to get his mouth to the base of your areola. HTH!

OMG! how did i forget!

with my youngest daughter, i had a cracked nipple. not sure how that happened but it hurt like hell. the good thing is that its like our lips and heals in a few days. the visiting nurse recommended the following.

1. take a standard bottle nipple and slit it in an X pattern where the hole is. if the X is still to small, cut a small hole in the top of the nipple.

2. put it the bottle nipple over your nipple and hold it and let the baby suck the bottle nipple. hold the round part of the bottle nipple to your breasts to help with the suction.

3. the milk will start to come out thru the bottle nipple.

i did it for like 3 days until my cracked nipple healed.

I exclusively nursed both my boys (for 10 friggin' months each! Le sigh!!!) but no matter how much Lansinoh you use, your nips will be sore at first for a few days.

What's important is baby's latch. He has to open his mouth really wide to try and take in as much of your breast as possible into his mouth (that means nipple AND areola). If he's just latching onto your nipple, it will be a disaster for you (trust me, I learned that the hard way). Baby's bottom and top lip should also be curled outward while feeding.

Google some pics of a correct latch to help you out a bit. That's what helped me.

We tend to think breastfeeding is supposed to be this innate thing that we "know" on instinct, but that's not the case. Mom and baby have to learn and get accustomed to the whole process. Takes a few days and lots of practice, but you can do it. Even if you decide it's not for you, hey, at least you gave it a shot
