Psychology Major Questionokay i'm majoring in psych right now and would love to go to med school and be a psychiatrist
but classes are killing me.i got an A in bio 1

Psychology Major Question
okay i'm majoring in psych right now and would love to go to med school and be a psychiatrist
but classes are killing me.i got an A in bio 1 a B in bio 2 and a B in chem 1..im in chem 2 right now at UF, still need to take my orgos and physics...dont know how i'll make it into med school
so i wanna have a plan B, in case i cant get in to med school.....what could i do with a psych major and still make a decent living?
im not interested in teaching, or doing a lot of research as a career

Be a psychologist....and get your PHD...Then work in prisons, profiling for the FBI...health dept...organic and biochem and zoology are the weeding out classes...so you are probably right to think about other options...

If your not interested in research get your PsyD. You can bill third party insurances yet there isn't as much focus on research as with a PhD.

have u looked into clinical psychology? I wanted to be a psychiatrist until someone told me I had to go to medical school while focusing on the sciences. I am barely making it through the sciences I have to take in undergrad so that was a big no no for me lol

see im the first in my family to get college education here in the US so im not sure what order i should go in to become a clinical psychologist

Yes thats what I'm doing. It focuses more on counseling and such. Your school should have a schedule that you would follow.

It's always good to have a plan B, I did. Your grades are fine for med school just keep it up. Organic Chem and Biochem are two of the hardest classes and they are kind of used to "weed people out." Once you are in medical school there is no O chem and very little Biochem. I hated my classes in undergrad, they were much harder than medical school. Also, keep your options open. There is a medical world beyond MD. HTH

I am in undergrad but the classes that I have taken focus moreso on the brain and development. i.e. abnormal, physiological (?) psy

social work is stressful ass hell. thats what i hear and the returns isnt even that huge compared to the work you have to do. you have to be passionate about helping ppl

My MA is in I/O psych. And I work in HR currently. Glad to see someone else joining the field!

A few of my friends who got degrees in Psychology are now in Marriage and Family Counseling programs. They get to focus on topics that interest them and when they finish they can practice counseling.
A few of the things they study:
-Counseling of Black males
-Counseling of Marriages with infidelity issues
-Counseling of young children who are depressed
-Counseling of patients with terminal illnesses.
Point is, they were able to help the community in the area that they loved and are making good money with it...and they started with a Psych degree.
