My core major is English, I will also pursue a teacher's license for 7-12 grade Language Arts (lawd knows the babies need all the help they can get..."Twitter updates" thread, anyone?). I have two minors: Ethnic Studies and Art Education. I also plan on going to grad school for Information and Library Science (I would love to be a librarian!). But I think I might concentrate in digital librarianship since things are so advanced. There's also archiving, curating, etc.
I've worked for non-profits that are like summer camps with an educational component, so I'm hoping to utilize my teacher degree in that capacity (teacher in the school system would be a back up). The non-profits catered to inner city kids so the Ethnic Studies minor may help me obtain a permanent position with the organization's planning board (grant writing, program planning, advertising, etc). I've never pictured myself as a teacher but the majority of my jobs have been teacher aide positions.
The Art Education minor is there for fun and relaxation. Plus I can learn a particular field (like ceramics) without having to pay for courses outside of univ. If I choose to continue with ceramics, photography, etc, it'll be on my time without extra money spent on taking courses in the future.
I'm a Cancer, so I guess your friend was right, eh? And I like options: teacher, non-profit sector, librarian, archivist; I'm fickle.

I think its SO interesting that us cancers are choosing majors more focused on math and science. . we are like the smart ones in society.
My middle and high schools were chock full of Math and Science. I entered college with Civil Engineering in my tunnel vision. That shit is boring. I think you truly have to desire the field, or the money, to pursue certain areas.
I'm happy to balance out the uber smart Cancers with my English major.
A lot of people I know that have graduated don't have a career in their major field. Who else out there is having a hard time finding positions in their field? And what was your major?

Fickle, fickle, fickle. I've revamped my goals FOR THE LAST TIME (I'm screaming to myself in hopes that I'll listen). I'm going to double major in English and Cognitive Science. I'll minor in Artificial Intelligence. I still hope to work in the non-profit sector with kids (mainly on the planning board; the cognitive science major will help in program/activities planning, and such). I might also delve into the more technical world, or counseling. This is final, Janine.
