5/22: Rashan Ali leaves Hot 107.9

Rashan Ali, the mid-day host at Hot 107.9, was let go Thursday afternoon, she informed me at her fundraiser for her charity Sporty Girls tonight at the Loft in Castleberry Hill. Q from the R&B group 112 performed.
Ali was a morning host for many years at Hot and headed the “A” Team until last summer, when Hot went with syndicated Rickey Smiley. She was moved to mid days, partly because she was still under contract. But she was making morning show money and Hot, like other radio stations, is in serious cost cutting mode.
Her contract was up in February but her agent Career Sports and Management got her a three month extension. Hot, she said, did not negotiate with her. Her contract is up May 31 but they decided to let her go a week early. She has a three-month noncompete clause, she said, so she is free to look for other radio employment in Atlanta in September.
For now, she said she can focus on her charity work. “It’s all good,” she said, with no trace of bitterness. She said she was expecting to get cut, given the economic environment.
She’s also pregnant with her second child, a girl, who is due in September.
Hot will likely hire a replacement at less than half the cost of Rashan to do mid days.

I try to keep up with urban radio across the country when I can and I guess Elle Duncan on V-103 (V-103 Atlanta The People's Station - homepage) was eating her up in the ratings (though they'll blame the economy). Ain't nuthin' like getting fired, fired, FIRED. She should have moved on when Ryan Cameron left Radio One, but noooooooooooooooooo, she wanted to stay on in the morning and then got kicked out of that spot for a syndicated show only to be plopped into a slot where she was bound to fail. I know she hates the fact that her former co-host's weather/traffic girl has the competing slot on the largest (and oldest) radio station in the city and she's pregnant and unemployed. Maybe she can do some things for free with her buddies The 2 Live Stews (WWW.2LIVESTEWS.COM) while she is waiting for her non-compete to expire. She may end up doing traffic updates like that Ramona girl who had a show but didn't make the cut at CBS Radio (can't think of her name right now).
Cathy Hughes is a schmuck but folks wanna be hard-headed and not listen. Now she's on the radio begging for folks to save her stations that are merging and being purchased by other companies.
Side rant: And how you gon' have five stations in Texas (Houston and Dallas) and none in California and five in Indianapolis?

Re: Rashan Ali Leaves Hot 107.9
I know she will bounce back. She really knows how to network and make things happen. She was really cool when I met her and so is her husband. She'll be back, bigger and better than before.
Does anyone know why (the real reason) Rashon Ali is gone from 107.9? She was the only good thing left locally on that station...There are several comments on her facebook page of people wishing her well, reports of her being let go and so forth. I wish her well, loved her personality.
Her baby is soooo crute!!! They say she's expecting again. Idk I'm hearing that her contract was up. I liked Rashan. One of the few people left at 107.9 worth listening to. It's GARBAGE now. I wonder who will take her spot...Mizz Shyneka? Shyneka is aight but the rest of them suck.
I know thats what I was thinking! Her daughter is too cute. IOf course I find this article after I post my thread. I'm still surprised they let her go but I guess they know they would have to pay her to keep her. It'd be interesting if she joined Ryan Cameron on his show on V103 since Elle now has her own show. It would be like old times...

Hot will likely hire a replacement at less than half the cost of Rashan to do mid days. Rashan Ali (right) is joined by C.J. (left) and Emperor Searcy (center)
Her former morning cohost C.J. was there, along with Murph Dawg of 95.5/The Beat. Hot 107.9’s Emperor Searcy was there to support her as well. I’ll put up photos in the morning.
Rashan with Q of 112
Tell you the truth, I haven't listened to Hot 107.9/V 103 in years and almost forgot who was Rashon Ali. I wish her luck but it would be nice if she would be on Ryan Cameron's show on V-103.
Rashan won't leave ATL...probably not! She was born and raised here from what I understand and she has a family so she probably won't just up and leave. She'll be fine. Something's going to give.
Awww.... I remember when she and Ryan were doing the morning show together. I listened to them on the way to school. That was the best lineup, I don't much care for Elle. Radio sucks across the board period. Every channel plays the same 5-10 songs by the same 5-10 artists.
