You were tiny and feisty as all get out. would try to fight or bite any dog that came near. You never ate dog food a day in your life. Your favorites meals were spaghetti with meat sauce, Liver and onions, and vanilla ice cream. As our family became more successful, you reaped the benefits as well. new clothes, a bed (although you usually slept with us kids) to go in the home my mom and step dad were finally able to buy, and your own plate at thanksgiving. Yet, you never lost your sense of the hood, like the rest of the family, and constantly tried to stomp with the big dogs. Even though you were blind, when we took you for a ride you would still stand up in the window and bark if you caught wiff of another animal.
You lived all the way up to my first year in college. You lost your eyesight at age 11 and lived another 8 years before cancer and old age took you from us. One of your puppies, Chi-Chi, only died seven years ago in my mothers home.
You are the only dog we ever owned and I miss you so much. I was not there when you died but I cried and stayed out of class for a week. I think of you now and my eyes well up. You were not only family, but our best friend with four legs. You are the reason I am reluctant to get my children, your nieces, a dog. There isn't one that could ever fill your booties. Love you, tabby.
Thank you for this thread.Unless you are a pet owner or animal lover, you will never know how devastating it is when you lose your pet. They love you unconditionally, regardless if you are having a bad hair day or are bloated. They ride for you no matter what. They will give their lives at the drop of a hat. If they love you, there are no limits.
Sorry so long, guys... I need a tissue and a hug. :(
Re: In Memoriam - Remembering Pets Whom Have Passed Away
Our Onyx passed 10/29. He would have been 16yrs old in January. Black cocker spaniel. Biggest pain in the ass & nosiest dog on the planet. But I loved my nephewdog so much!!! He just got old. Health went down. I let him outside to use the bathroom & he didn't come back. He'd gone way out to the back of the yard & laid down. He NEVER did that! He always did his business & ran back to the house to be let in. I knew he went back there to die. Carried him back to the house. He wouldn't let me clean his face. Just hid under the table all night.
It was my sister's dog & she came over & laid under the table with him stroking him for a while. Took him to the vet in the morning & they suggested we put him down. I cried all day. He lived here so someone could be with him most of the time, so now I find myself tip toeing at night so I don't wake him or I open the doors carefully so he can't get out. I still look for him to come find me whenever I come in the house or go downstairs. He was blind & deaf but he would sniff me out whenever I came around! Especially if there was food involved!
I'll always miss him. Sister had him cremated & he has a black cocker spaniel urn that looks JUST like him in his prime. It's eery. My rottweiler has the same urn & sits in the garden where her pen used to be during summer.

RIP my dog Milo.
My dad would not let us take the dogs inside during a winter freeze and left them out in the shed. My puppy Milo had a dark black shiny coat and green eyes. Beautiful dog. We begged and cried and finally he said the dog could stay in the unfinished basement. He died that night probably from hypothermia. I know my dad is used to dogs being outside when he grew up but this was one of the coldest winters in NY history. Anyway I broke down in school the next day and the school nurse called my house. My dad ran and bought us another dog (a complete mean German/mix bitch) that we eventually gave away.

Just when I think I have enough COURAGE to come in this thread ... I suddenly realize that I'm not strong enough for this thread YET (and my baby has been gone 11 years now).

My first cat Callie that I had from the time I was 5 until I was 23...best cat anyone could ever ask for. She was super sweet & affectionate...loved everyone, not aloof like most cats.
My dog Harley was a gentle giant. He was a a German Shepherd and Great Dan mix. He was such sassy boy, but the sweetest boy you'd ever meet.
Re: In Memoriam - Remembering Pets Whom Have Passed Away
When I was little'r.... I had a black cat named Sabrina.... she used to be scared of me and my sister because we used to torture her.... but we were toddlers we didn't know any better.... everytime we came home from preschool she used to run behind the couch.... lol....
And then my momz had bought us pet Goldfish.... but they died the night she put them in the tank.... lol.... because the water she put them in was hot.... lol... R.I.P Goldfish..... and they were adorable too.... we still had the fish tank though.... lol....
And she is not dead... but I miss this kitten.... this black kitten was abandoned by her mom and my sister found her outside in a rainstorm and bought her into the building... and we called ASPCA to come pick up the kitten.... so we had to take care of her.... we named her Po' Lil' Tink Tink.... and we took care of her and fed her and what not.... when ASPCA came they took her in.... fixed her.... and someone adopted her.... she was so cute though.....

To Wedge: (our family cat) Since I was only 2 when you passed away, I don't really remember much about you. But, my Mother told me, whenever I would cry, you would run over to see what was wrong. You were a very caring cat. Although, you would sometimes hiss at me because my crawling made you think I was another animal, I had a really fun time with us chasing each other. I hope you are having a fun time in Heaven with my Grandparents dog Tara. You guys got along soo well. My parents and I loved you like a sister, and sill miss you very much.
Rest In Peace.

I've only lost one animal myself so far in my life.. but it was heartbreaking. I got her when I was only 11 years old and she stayed with me through my tough teenage years and died when I was about 21.
