the emmett till pics had me fucked UP. and i was eating as i was thumbing through the magazine that had them, too. i usually have a strong stomach (i'm eating now) but i def didn't finish dinner that night. the mag described the smell in the church coming off the body and all, ugggggg...

Janye head was actually scalped from the top of the car roof behind peeled off. The kids were sleeping in the backseat that is how they survived. A dog was also killed. Someone posted a link earlier. I saw the pics on that findadeath site with the dog and such

I read somewhere that you could smell Emmitt's body from blocks away when he was brought back to his mother's town for the funeral.

Damn, the body was giving off a smell even though there was glass over it? Ugh. No wonder so many folks fainted at that funeral.

Ugh. But why though? They didn't embalm him before they shipped him back up north. Ugh, I couldn't even imagine being in that area, smelling something, and knowing that it was a dead kid.

Is it encased? Embalming coupled with encasement-which prevents air-does that. The same way people can have their wedding bouquets saved.

they did embalm him, but with his wounds and the fact that he had been submerged in the river, he had already started to decompose before he was even discovered. embalming is supposed to temporarily hold off decomp, not halt it, and the process had already begun. add to that it was hot out. and the church was not air conditioned

I work in a hospital and I have to deal with the dead on occasions. I hated one time that I had to watch someone die, bc the patient had signed a do not resuscitate form. I was just staring at the clock and then the patient to document time of death. It was just me and the patient in the room and when she died, a strange feeling overcome me. I almost fainted when I witnessed a autopsy though. I will never forget that memory.
