Job scams posted on job websites
I am talking on Yahoo Hotjob, Monster, etc. A friend of mine who graduated with a degree back in December got called for an interview and she went today only to find out that the job was door-to-door delivery making about $200 a week...and that is only if you sell your ass off. The original posting on the website did not say door to door delivery. WTF!!!!! These sites are posting jobs that are not about ish. Which is why I would not waste my time applying at a company that I had not heard about.

Re: Job scams posted on job websites
I've been called by a company based in London named Cobra and I found it suspicious that they asked me to come for an interview without a CV or something to prove my resume. So I googled it... And discovered that it was a trap for recruiting people, educated or not for a door-to-door job.
I thanked God for google because I was about to pay 100$ for the eurostar to go to see their fake world communication company !!!!
ETA: I found them on monster!

Re: Job scams posted on job websites
I've known about this for years.
Clark Howard also talks about this. ClarkHoward.com Home: Save More, Spend Less and Avoid Rip-Offs on clarkhoward.com
Yet, people always said if I didn't try a site like monster.com or craigslist, they implied I was lazy. Until this one girl tried it and she got a surprise.

Re: Job scams posted on job websites
I'm surprised goodwill's job places post monster.com jobs.
ajcjobs has fake ones too.
I question why they are allowed to post them.

They make it seem like it's good pay and easy. But when you go to the interview, you realize it's BS. I went on an interview in a aged building. The interviewer was very nice...But you basically are supposed to sell expensive knives and not door to door. It's basically word to mouth and you can only sell the knives to married couples 25 or over or I think people 25 and over. This was in 2005 so IDK if they still do it this way. And you get 18.50 every time you sell a set, something like that. When I found out, I never went back.

Re: Job scams posted on job websites
In the letters or Ads, they never mention selling knivers or anything. I also think you have to pay for something initially. Google them and there are complaints about them.

Re: Job scams posted on job websites
you should do research on any company that you plan to interview for in the first place.

Re: Job scams posted on job websites
This makes the job hunt 1000 times harder. Why? There are maybe 3 legit jobs per 5 pages of job listings. And vector marketing and others are those I'd include under "legit jobs".
A lot of them are there to collect information from you.

Goodness gracious I thought this would've been the perfect summer job after I graduated high school. We all got interviewed basically together in the same room. It was too weird. I got hired but didn't return after that first interview.
I didn't wanna sell no fukn knifes to my friends and family. That's embarassing... I don't even remember what the pay rate was- I was ready to walk out when they did the knives demonstration. It was like being in an audience for some crappy infomercial.
This was over five years ago.
A few months ago a homegirl's little sister (recent high school grad) was telling us about her new job at Vector Marketing. She has writing down 300 people she knew along with their phone numbers as homework for work. I told her not to waste her time.
Lmao at her actually getting that list going, too. poor thang.

I remember that! But when I was there, it was 100 people. They also did the knife demonstration, cutting a penny with it,etc. After that, I basically avoided their calls. I was 18 at the time. It's like I didn't really know anyone who was 25 and married. And who is gonna buy expensive ass knives? Not the job for me. I tried to tell..warn my friend about it but he still went to the interview because I guess he was desperate. But later on, he was like, yeah it's knives and didn't go through with it. Dumb ass didn't want to listen the 1st time.

Re: Job scams posted on job websites
These sites are about money like careerbuilder, so they will post jobs that really aren't legit like some online jobs and postal positions where they want you to pay money beforehand.

Re: Job scams posted on job websites
99% of the sales jobs you find on these sites are scams or involve you going door to door/ canvassing.
Be weary of spelling mistakes, "businesses" that lack websites, and job postings that don't clearly describe the mission/purpose of the company.
Google everything! The better business bureau is an excellent resource as well.
