just finished watching the last part of the Soul Train documentary on VH1. Caught a glimpse of this artist and can not for the life of me remember his name. He was an old school artist (early 70s), I THINK he may have been on the Shaft soundtrack (not Isaac Hayes) he did 'concious" music. At the time of his death he was wheel chair bound, I think he fell off a stage performing and broke his neck. He wore wire rimmed glasses. Thank in advance for the info. This is driving me CRAZY!!! As they say, his name is on "the tip of my tongue" but I just can't bring it out.

Curtis Mayfield?

I didn't watch the special (don't have cable hope they post it online) that was Curtis Mayfield. He did the Superfly Soundtrack, not SHAFT
