Best prescription acne/acne scar treatment?
My dermatologist prescribed Aknemycin and I wonder if it's going to work. What prescription treatments have you all used that have worked for you? I've used a host of different products. Differin never worked for me but I have received results with Retin-A and Tazaroc worked for a few weeks but then stopped. I hope Aknemycin works.

Re: Best prescription acne/acne scar treatment?
Those mycin's work pretty good and dealing with the infection, but have you tried changing your diet? Also I mentioned in another thread that using an ice cube on your face after washing really helps the swelling go down and the infection to go back in and out thru your system.
I also have noticed lately that my face breaks out more when I eat a lot of starch/carbs...also my face breaks out when I drink a lot of lemonaid cuz it's pushing out the toxins.
Have you thought of tryin to cleanse or detox cuz that will get rid of the stuff that's in your system that causes you to have acne.

Thanks. I have done the cleansings and detox. I have battled acne on and off all of my life but it's not my diet. If people who eat the way I eat get acne then I hate to see what the faces of people who eat poorly looks like. LOL. I say that because I eat extremely well and exercise. Right now, getting acne isn't the issue except for menstraul breakups but clearing up the acne scars.

Re: Best prescription acne/acne scar treatment?
I was in the same boat 6yrs ago. Used EVERYTHING, including ALL you listed above.
Then finally went on ACCUTAINE. My acne was so severe I had to go on it twice It works & its the only thing that works long term IMO.
Its a very serious drug with serious side effects. You need to be on at least two forms of birth control otherwise baby might be born deformed, with no ears, and other limbs etc.
If it can chew away a baby's ears, imagine how well it kills your acne.
Its not for everyone but I had had it with my acne! It worked for me.
But its expensive as its not covered by insurance.
You need a doctor to monitor your bloodwork every month once you are on it.
So although its a "dangerous" drug, your doc will ensure thru bloodwork & tests that your body is not reacting badly against it.

I am glad that worked for you but I wouldn't use accutane. The side effects don't sit well with me and getting all of that bloodwork for acne? I rather just deal with it.

Re: Best prescription acne/acne scar treatment?
I had some prescription strength benzoyl peroxide and some other kind of spot mask that worked really well and I can't remember the name (it's been awhile).
ETA: The mask was called Plexion SCT. It's a wonder what google can do (I remembered the bottle color)!

I know two people that used accutane and it worked wonders for them. But the bloodwork gotta be done I believe every week and yes the side effects are crazy. My derm told me that accutane is only for people with severe acne.

It's just some people bodies can't digest that crap well. My brother eat whatever and his skin is nice but when I eat crap, my shyt breakout, now that I eat better my skin is great. I really think water is the key because there are days where I eat junk and fast food and my skin don't breakout like it used to in the past and I think that is because I drink mostly lemon water now.

Re: Best prescription acne/acne scar treatment?
Honestly Accutane but the side effects wasn't worth it to go back on it again. I like having my liver thank you very much. But maybe you need to treat the acne in a two-prong method, meaning treating it internally and externally. Has your doctor prescribed Taz or Retin-A in addition to the antibiotics? Maybe that will work for you. Good luck.

Re: Best prescription acne/acne scar treatment?
as for the acne its self , not sure works well. i'm still battling it myself, but as far as acne scarring, I would try vitamin E cream or gel, its seems very good at lighten and smoothing scarring!
