Yes I'm Natural, just underneath this weave!
I love the health and growth aspects that benefit my hair from being natural. However I found that actually maintaing Natural hairstyles without the assistance of Sew in Weaves or Micro-braids to be too demanding on my busy lifestyle.
Are there any other Lipstick Ladies who are natural but find daily maintenance of their Natural hair too stressful?

i'm going through the process now...tips are needed as well. I refuse to do the big chop (simply because I don't have the face).

Yes :(
I wear my hair in a bun with a "claw" type thing everyday.
i mean it's great as a protective style, but I love doing my hair. Just takes too mch time and lately all my efforts go toward scholarship applications, homework. exam prep.. etc etc.

Re: Yes I'm Natural, just underneath this weave!
Daily maintenance for my natural hair is a lot less stressful than it was when I was relaxed. I've worn weaves under my natural, but I can't afford nor do I want to keep a weave in 365 days a year. I wear different styles every few days. I might put my hair in a banana comb or put other combs in it to pin it up on the side. I might do a two strand twist or just put a headband on it and keep it movin'. Natural hair is a lot less stressful to me.

Right now I'm rockin a wig because I'm growin my hair out. The longer it is the less work I have to do (as in less straightening because the wavy just got outta bed look is in).

Re: Yes I'm Natural, just underneath this weave!
I am natural as well. I only wear my hair out for periods at a time. Also, it is winter time now, and I am trying to protect my hair from the elements; however, I am not a bun type girl. So my hair is weaved up right now.

You should just focus on a slow transition which is keeping both textures in your hair and slowly cutting off the damaged relaxed hair as you feel comfortable with the length of your Natural Hair. I tried wearing my Natural Hair out but found it too stressful with daily knot untangling as it grew longer.

Re: Yes I'm Natural, just underneath this weave!
I just went Natural In September. I've had Kinky twists since, but now that I have taken them down, I'm seeing that this isn't going to be easy. I've been researching my hair type but it seems like this is something I'll have to figure out on my own.

Re: Yes I'm Natural, just underneath this weave!
I work 40 hours a week and I attend grad school full time, so I don't have time to care for my natural hair. I cornrow my hair and wear a lace wig. I wash and condition my cornrows once a week, and I oil my scalp with MTG daily. My hair has never been as healthy or grown as fast as now.
That's why all of the nonsense men spew about weaves and wigs is aggravating. They can shut that shit up. Women wear weaves and wigs for different reasons. We all can't be painted with the same brush.

Amen to your Reply Honey. I used to feel ashamed wearing weave but today I wear fake hair to take care of my living hair

Re: Yes I'm Natural, just underneath this weave!
Not at all, I wouldn't be natural if it was harder to maintain. I can wear the same twists, knots, braids for weeks at a time, then most of the time I take those out, and wear it another week or so.
Why go thru the trouble? I'd just get a short cut or rock locs if if doing my hair was not part of my lifestyle.

Re: Yes I'm Natural, just underneath this weave!
Personally, I find it difficult at times when I have a thicker texture...especially during the winger. During the summer, I can get a way with just doing a lot of wash and go and just rock my curly puff. Now, I do a weekly hot oil treatment for prepoos on my off days and still rock a puff. Not too long ago I've purchased a flat iron, a blow dryere and Chi infusion for my hair so I can have a straight look for the winter season. I'm testing to see if I can manage the hair style and the maintenance in keeping the style going.

Re: Yes I'm Natural, just underneath this weave!
I braid mine up sometimes with extensions, sometimes not or I wear a full head weave. I don't like sleeping with my hair loose so that's one reason. And can't take my hair not looking kept. Otherwise my hair will curl up tightly around my head and shoulders and I can't take that at all...
