Thanks for the post OP bc I was thinking about being one...

My best friend is a flight attendant. She likes it cause she makes a lot of money but she complains about having no time for a relationship. She says she is quitting next year and going back to school.

i take off as many days as i possibly can. i guess its how you work the system
also seniority plays a huge part in it too.

My friend swears by it but she loves to travel around like that.

Sounds like fun, isn't it hard to land a job in it with the economical crisis still going on though? From what I hear it's competitive.

former f/a..it was the best job I ever had - so much fun and freedom...be prepared to be sent to any base after training and possibly not work that many hours at first and have to fly out last minute but if you hang in there and build some seniority it's worth it..

oh and you have to be the type of person that can stick to a schedule and be on time, survive on little sleep at times and be very patient

Do you always get paid for 40 hrs a week?

NO! lol
you get paid for flight hours. meaning from the time the door is close until its opened.
so if you do an hour flight, youre getting an hour's worth of pay.
for every hour youre out of base, you get per-diem, ive heard of numbers from 1.50/hr to 2.25/hr. depends on the airline you work for.

also you get a min number of flight hours every month. so if youre sitting reserve and your company has a guarantee of 75 flight hours. even if you dont get called that month, youre only getting those 75hrs a whole month. with most airlines, in order to make more money, you need to work over that guarantee.
