@ elsfanxo: Thanks for the link. Some of the jobs look promising, but I can't swim or do a lot of heavy lifting, so I'm not qualified. Back to the drawing board.

Don't count yourself out yet. I can't swim that well either but my airline never had a water training. It depends on the airline. We didn't get in the pool and we didn't take any lifting tests. I do not lift anyone's luggage my but my own.

My Mood:
We don't lift bags but we did have to be able to lift 50 pounds. . If you apply to any airline that flyswatter overwater further than 2 hours you will have to do raft training ....however ....you don't have to know how to swim at all....during training you will only have to jump in a pool WITH a lifevest and get yourself over to a raft and lift yourself up and onboard ...they have like 5 lifeguards there with you.
As anyone applying for Emirates this year or going to one of the ODs I'm planning on going to the one in DC or Miami, I'm starting to get my CV and pro pics together now
@ strawberries & elsfanxo: I submitted an application for Continental because swimming wasn't on the list of qualifications. Can you tell me what it's like working for that airline? I wanted to apply for Alaska Airlines, but they had too many doggone requirements. Can you also tell me when is hiring season for entry level applicants that have no previous experience? When I was looking at the website, it seems like the airlines only want to hire overqualified people.

Yes Continental is hiring. I had two coworkers recently finish training in the last few months and another coworker got an offer for a class in February but is still considering. I don't work for them so I really don't know what it's like there but I do know that United is furloughing about 2100 fa's so with the merger I'd be a little cautious about that.
I had a United fa on my flight last week and she was going back on reserve after 20 years, sucks for her. She said it's because of the furlough and there isn't much domestic flying.
There isn't such a thing as a hiring season. They hire when the need arises. Some places have more of a turnover rate than others. Experience doesn't matter. If you have customer service experience that is the biggest selling point going for you.

Thanks for the info about Continental. It's sad because I actually thought that job had potential. Basically, it's just another job that makes the employees work long hours for low pay and no benefits like all the other jobs that are out there right now. I DO NOT need that in my life! I need a good job with good benefits because I've got bills to pay. I'm SICK of searching for jobs because I can't find anything.
