Wow! Sad Story. I
Wow! Sad Story. I feel bad that she had to lose her eye sight just because she wanted to switch up her look. Some people said that it had to do with self hating but do you think that wearing contacts equals self hating? I remember in Highschool I wore some gray and hazel contacts a couple of times and I didn't feel like I hated myself.

That is terrible!!! :-(
I remember back in the 11th grade, kids at my school were trying on color contacts and 9 of them got pink eye.
I wear contacts for sight (not color contacts) and my doctors says that you have to be careful what brand of contacts you use because they can cause damage.
Re: 14 year old Goes Blind From Wearing Colored Contacts!
I take my contacts out even to take a nap. About 10 or so years ago, I had lost my job (right after 9-11) and was temping. I had taken my niece to see Lauryn Hill and we sat in the 4th row, because I said I needed accessible seating because of a vision impairment (not true). About six months later I had a burning in my eyes that felt like someone had stabbed me in the eye with a hot knife.
I was treated with steroid drops and the doctors could not figure out what was wrong. The steroids were like $80/bottle and I had no job and no health insurance. Had to pay $60-$120 a week to keep going back to the doctor and my vision in my left eye was 20/100. Eventually my eyes got better and it turns out that I suffer from dry eyes and the contacts were damaging my corneas. Wrong size and not taking care of them will mess your eyes up. I was lucky. Never got accessible seating again.

Poor thing! You're already going through so much emotion and hormonal changes and peer pressure and everything else at that age, and add this to it. Is there nothing the doctors can do? We take ourselves for granted. I feel so bad for her, that type of mess you don't wish on your worst enemy. Blindness when you already have knowledge of the world what looks like. Teen girls do all kinds of stuff to either blend in or stand out or look cute, no one should have to suffer like this because of it. I'm hoping she can be helped. She had eyesight, the parts are there, it's not like she was born blind. Is there no miracle that can bring this child's sight back?

Sorry but the parents outrage is a little too late. I would NEVER NEVER NEVER let my stick things in their eyes just like that. Even when the doctor prescribes medicine I look it up first.

Re: 14 year old Goes Blind From Wearing Colored Contacts!
I wear prescription contacts. When I first started wearing them and fell asleep in them, It was hard for me to open my eyes and they were red. And if I have to put them in water overnight if I am staying over someone's house I do not put them back in before I get them in solution. Water makes them feel uncomfortable.
I feel bad for the little girl. I can't help but wonder why she wanted them. Honestly, in the video she looked unkempt and so did her mother. Im not passing judgment on her mom because I don't know what her financial situation is and things of that nature, but the girl looks like one of those little girls who don't know how to take care of her appearance and it seem as if her mother doesn't either. She reminds me of some little girls I work with. Its like she tried innocently to make herself look better and it just went horrible. Its sad because now she have a serious issue to deal with.

We don't know that they gave her the money for the contacts. She's old enough to march into the beauty supply store herself.
My niece had them at 13 when she was living with me, but being a 20+ year contact lense wearer who has gone through it with my lenses and eyes, I made sure she took care of them and didn't sleep in them and kep them clean (though her mother let her buy them cuz I sure wouldn't).
