i can quote wayne & ross's color struck asses all day. But even other songs in hip hop right now are just out right praising yellow and redbone women.
it's to the point i'm considering if i have a daughter not to let her listen to hip hop.
honey, there are many reasons your daughter shouldn't listen to rick ross and lil wayne and color is the very very very last thing that should have you concerned. How about the degradation of women the foul language the use of the word n*gger the talk of selling drugs violence etc.
Smh. Sigh. smh @ you even CONSIDERING letting your daughter listen to rick ross. i'm assuming she's young since you even said "letting" her listen. a sample of rick ross's lyrics. AND PRAISING OF REDBONES is your concern???? you need to check yourself and your feelings about shadism and feelings about yourself if this is what bothers you about rap.
I got them motherfuckers flyin' 'cross the Atlantic

Most cultures that I can think of (Asian, Latina, Spanish, Indian) praise lighter-skinned women. This is the norm. Hip-hop music reflects the higher value placed on lighter-skinned women. I don't see what's wrong with these musicians being honest and expressing that in their music.
You really have to dig deeper into your own self-esteem to deal with the beauty standard... hating against hip-hop will not change that.
As long as white people are king, so too will their women reflect the highest level of beauty.
And what does these guys being ugly have to do with anything? Yes, their lyrics show self-hatred but they make enough money to have the lightest women in the world do anything for them.

Last week i heard my little brother reciting the lyrics from Right above it especially lil wayne's line 'Beautiful Black Women I Bet That Bitch Look Better Red'. I looked at him like 'what hell did you just say' and he just said 'but it's true though, light skinned girls are better looking'.
I wonder what would lil wayne says to his daugthers if they were feeling insecure about their complexion?

And many of them with those preference have mommas and sisters who are dark-skinned. I really do wonder where the self-hate comes from.
It's sad, really.

The videos always favored the blackanese & exoicals, latins and lightskinned women. But now the lyrics are downright praising em, where before you could always chuck it up to the label and directors forcing it on you. But now the artists themselves are directly dividing us and our women's worth in society with the lightskinned praising.
Peep the context of the discussion before u say NOT AGAIN, WILL NOT END WELL blah blah.
This discussion was had plenty of times about Lil Wayne and his lyrics, and rappers in general reference to light skin women. Just look it up, seriously!
Re: Has the Praising of Yellow Bishes & Redbones In Hip Hop Got out of Controll
Why do I feel as if people or those that harp too much on the light skin dark skin complexity have issues that they themselves need to deal with. Why should someone else's preference for whichever skin tone, ethnicity, or race matter to you, if it does not directly involve you? What these "dumb" rappers rap about should not interfere with the upbringing of your children and how they view what is "the standard of beauty." Granted you wont be able to shield them forever, but up until they reach 18, the ball is in your court, not Weezy, Rick Ross, and certainly not Jay. I swear, it is only us, as black people who give this issue so much thought. I come from a history of "red and yellow bones" but that does not make me or any of us inferior to those of darker pigmentation. Teach your children better, or let the streets teach them...too easy.
PS. Op this was not a personal attack on you at all, just a general statement. Now back to watching Ray I go.

And baby mothers, too. I don't really see any light-skinned obsession with Lil Wayne other than in his lyrics. He has dated (and unfortunately, impregnated) women in every color of the spectrum.
Re: Has the Praising of Yellow Bishes & Redbones In Hip Hop Got out of Controll
I cant take Wayne, Ross, and any of these ignorant fools seriously.
Old school hip hop would never condone this.
"the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice..."
If they prefer lightskinned chicks then thats fine, but to be mentioning them and glorifying them all the time is just gonna cause self-esteem issues esp. for some young kids who listen to their songs.
Ross is a dummy period, talking about he has a chopper in the car and he used to be a corrections officer. he meant a whooper in the car not chopper.
Its funny how its usually the darkskinned rappers who say this. I wonder what Wayne would do one day if a man told Reginae "beautiful black bitch, bet she look better red."

Why the dead horse cliche? Why not create a new one like beating a dead cat or eating one?
