I don't want my paternal grandmother to come to my graduation
I graduate next month and back in december (for xmas) we visited my aunt and grandmother on my dad's side back home. Mind you, we barely communicate with them but try to visit them every time we go to my hometown (I used to write my grandma in when I was in elem-middle school) but we stopped. My aunt is very nice and seems genuine and she really wants to come to my graduation but my grandmother (aunt's and dad's mom) is not the nurturing, loving type and I'm not really sure if she even really wants to come.....I don't want her to b/c we really don't have a rel. although I don't really have a rel. with my aunt either (even though she's nice and gave me her #'s and address, wanting us to start communicating regularly, even though I haven't :-(. Oh, I don't really talk to my dad either so......yea. he sure aint coming.
So the dilemma is, my school only gave us 7 tickets for the graduation (each person has to have one to get in) and now, not only do I not want my paternal g-ma to come, but now Idk if I want my aunt to come b/c I know it will be awkward if I let my aunt (her daughter) come and not her, since I'm sure my aunt will mention it-yall this is really serious to me and very awkward! Plus I'm not really close to either of them although aunt's soo sweet and nice; their tickets could go to my local friends and deserving people. Please help!

I would explain to the aunt that you only have a limited number of tickets and you unfortunately cannot invite everyone that you want to invite. Tell her you will be sure to give her some pictures or something like that.

Give them to the people that you feel deserve them..If you don't want them to come then they don't come..

Is your grandmother not nurturing or does she just not know how to show it? If you feel that they're not really happy for you, then don't invite them. That day should only be for the people who have stuck by you and helped you get to where you are today. Give the tickets to the people that you really want to share that day with.
Re: I don't want my paternal grandmother to come to my graduation
Invite the people you want to invite. 9 times out of 10 if they haven't been there for you, they surely aren't getting you a gift & really wouldn't be hurt if they aren't there.
Or you could ask someone that doesn't have anyone to invite or will not be using all their tickets to give you their extras.

Yea I guess I'll tell them both I only have a limited amount of tickets. Should I send them graduation invites???????? I'm mailing them today and tomorrow
there's also an online waiting list for extra tickets (2) that I signed up for, even though it's not guaranteed

Tell them by phone and you can ask if they would still like invitations as keepsakes.
I went through something similar when I got married. My father disappeared out of my life when he and my mother divorced. We reconnected a few years ago and when I got married a lot of people from his side (that i did not grow up knowing) wanted to attend my wedding. I told him to tell them that we budgeted for a certain amount of people and unfortunately I couldnt invite them all and I didnt feel comfortable picking and choosing.
His sister made a big deal about it so I told her she and her husband could come and I sent them an invitation and she RSVP'ed for the 2 of them. She ended up bringing one of her daughters and granddaughter and they gave us a card with $5 in it. (Yes FIVE dollars).
Re: I don't want my paternal grandmother to come to my graduation
Place rarely stick to the ticket count. If extra people came I doubt they would turn them away at the door. I had 5 tickets and 10 guests.
But anyways give your tickets the people you really want to have tickets and to all the other people tell them you only had a small amount of tickets or tell them to come anyway and take their chances getting in.
