Exactly. The people making the jokes seem to be unaware that there was a lot of import/export of slaves between the West Indies, South America and the U.S. In other words, just cause you're Panamanian/Brazilian or whatever, doesn't mean your ancestors weren't picking cotton in the Carolinas and vice versa.

Most people came to England for work opportunities and to escape the poverty or war in their own countries, but their culture has remained strong despite being thousands of miles away. Let us not forget that countries which were once under British rule never really escaped their influence despite becoming independent, you can't change history.
