Arnaz and Ball were actually married to one another which is one reason why few back in the 50s was 'offended'. They toured relentlessly, working their routine to mostly white audiences before the show was made because of fears of mixed race objections. Seriously you have to give up on using Arnaz to make your bigoted point.

I don't think the OP is saying Latinos haven't been discriminated against. Everyone should know that they have. That isn't the question she posed. I understand EXACTLY what she is talking about. I've been involved in civil rights a looong time, since the 70's and my parents from the 50's through the 60's. While I have witnessed some productive "black/brown" alliances, I have also seen many Latinos want to be a "minority" when it is convenient for them, and be "white" when it is convenient for them. Even to this day, I don't see Latino-based organizations reaching out to black folks the way I have seen the NAACP reach out to Latinos. So, having been around a long time, I understand the OP's point and where she is coming from.

But blacks and whites weren't even ALLOWED to get married to each other in the first place. Mildred and Richard loving, a black woman and a white man (can't imagine how bad they would've lynched and burned him had he been black man marrying a white woman).... were arrested for getting married.

Have you lost your senses Desi WAS WHITE CUBAN. He was not a BLACK Cuban.
His people were White European Spanish from Spain who settled in Cuba.
White folks in 1950+ were not going to be sensible about a Mixed Black Cuban on their TV screen sleeping with a red head. It seems you are bent on his nationality that's fine. His race is white..... Find me a black Spanish man in his same situation perhaps then the comparisons would be fair.

A lot of Hispanics can pass as white, that's why. I think there are more white Hispanics than Afro-Latinos. Black people can't do that. There are some that "pass", but a majority of blacks simply can't.

It also bothers me that jobs are requiring Americans to speak Spanish. I was looking the other day for a certain position in the medical field just to scope out salaries and such... and I came across few that said fluent Spanish was required. WTF?

Why should 300 Million Americans be forced to learn another language for the sake of accommodating 50 Million Hispanics... most of which shouldn't even legally be here in the first place.

I have run into more store clerks lately, most recently at Sally's Beauty Supply, who have told me that Hispanics have been coming into the store requesting clerks who speak Spanish, and then have the nerve to get upset when one is not available.

We are not helping them learn the language at all because we are accommodating them. We're all familiar with the old "Press 1 for English, Press 2 for Spanish." And I was at the customer service desk the other day in Home Depot, and they had a whole list of associates posted who spoke Spanish that Spanish-speaking customers could request. Any other country you're in, you learn the language damn it!

ricki ricardo and lucille ball definitely did face bigotry and outrage in their day, the thing is american society's unspoken rule that many abide to subconsciously is that "white is right".
