The article was interesting but the online discussion today was CRAZY. I am used to DC/PG guys but some of the comments today were shocking. Folks were getting on her about her weight, complexion, hair...all types of stuff. I wish this thread were in the main Lounge area.

Sea duty I guess (I was never in the Navy.) But not every Navy dude goes to sea they also have shore duty as well. But the Norfolk area is filled with Military dudes Besides the Navy there's Army dudes from Fort Story and Monroe, Marines serving on the Naval bases., And Airforce dudes from Langley AFB.

...when I think about how our culture and community used to be when I was a child and a teen its like looking back at a sepia tone photograph - bittersweet nostalgia slightly removed from reality. Back then I took it for granted that black people, no matter what difficulties we faced, would always love each other. I thought blacks who dated out side of their race were strange. Obviously over 15 years later such dillusions of youth have been burned away by the bright rays of stark reality, still this article and the ensuing commentary pains my heart.

Yo some of the comments from the open poll were off the wall. Why were so many people writing to her to crack on the fact that she was dark skinned and had nappy hair. Yes she admits to having a weight problem. What I can't figure out is why so many women in the DC metro area wear the fact they can't cook like a medal of honor. Would they be doing the same thing if they couldn't read. It like chris rock said" there are black people and there and ni&&ers, and ni&&ers love not to know."
