Something tells me she knew all along he had her daughter too and in order to keep her daughter alive and safe she excluded him from having a finger pointed at during the investigation. Its probably why she was up and out at 3am-5...am trying to find or get her daughter back. The mother is definitely holding back.
I personally think she has known for a while about his past. People talk and I think people have warned her or said something. I just don't believe she found out right before her daughter went missing.

I thought along the lines of the bolded the entire time. I still don't buy the "went to work" bit. I thought either she knew or had an idea of who took her daughter or she knew her daughter ran off for some reason that she didn't want revealed.

This is crazy. I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling that the mother already knew that he was involved. I also wonder if he has sexually assaulted or abused her before, and that the mother overlooked it and chose her man over the daughter.

MAN ACCUSED OF ABDUCTING MISSING COLUMBIA TEEN
Associated Press Published Tuesday, August 28, 2012
COLUMBIA — A man who did yard work for the family of a missing 15-year-old Columbia girl has been charged with kidnapping her after her blood was found on duct tape near his home, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said.
The sheriff was holding out hope that Gabrielle Swainson will be found alive, and more than 100 officers are combing through a junkyard across from the suspect's home in Elgin on Tuesday looking for the missing teen.
"I haven't given up hope of finding her and bringing her home. That's what we're operating under, that she can be found," Lott said. "He's only charged with kidnapping."
Freddie Grant., 52, was uncooperative when investigators first asked him if he knew where Swainson was and hadn't been any more helpful since he was charged with kidnapping on Monday.
Swainson was last seen around 4 a.m. on Aug. 18 when her mother put her cellphone in her hand as she left her home in the suburbs northeast of Columbia to catch up on paperwork in her job as a workman's compensation claims adjuster. When the mom returned home several hours later, her daughter's alarm clock was ringing and her only child, nicknamed Gabbiee, was gone. All the teen's clothes, her purse and her cellphone charger were still in the home, authorities said.
Investigators began questioning the family and anyone who knew the girl. Grant was an obvious target because he was a convicted felon and deputies became even more suspicious when he refused to cooperate, Lott said.
Bullets were found in his home, leading to a federal weapons charge. That led to more searches, which uncovered his DNA and Gabbiee's DNA on duct tape with blood on it found near his house, the sheriff said.
Cell phone records show Grant was near Swainson's home around the time she disappeared and both of them appeared to end up at Grant's home, the sheriff said.
Grant is being held without bail at the Lexington County jail. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer.
Swainson's mother has been tirelessly looking for her daughter in the 10 days she has been missing. She has handed out hundreds of flyers and stopped traffic at a busy street near her home to ask drivers if anyone had seen the teen. She couldn't be reached Tuesday, but Lott said the news devastated her.
"She surrounded her whole life around Gabbiee. Took her places, did things with her. That's one of the reasons she was out at work," Lott said.
The case could expand further. Investigators said a 28-year-old woman who lived with Grant in Elgin has been missing for nearly a year. Adriana Laster disappeared in September 2011, but wasn't reported missing until March of this year by her grandmother in Homestead, Fla.,Elgin Police Chief Harold Brown said.
Grant and Laster lived together and had a troubled relationship. Brown said his officers were called to their home several times, culminating in an April 2011 charge of criminal domestic violence against Grant. Police pressed forward with the misdemeanor even though Laster asked them to drop the case. Grant was convicted and paid a fine, Brown said.

Gabbiee Swainson is an honors student By Susan-Elizabeth Littlefield
Gabbie Swainson was scheduled to walk into Ridge View High School on Thursday as a sophomore and an honors student, but she never showed up.
Much talk has been made about how Gabbie recently made the JV cheerleading squad, but most at the school know the missing 15-year-old as something else: smart, very smart.
She is part of the "Elite 21" student magnet program. It's for students who want to go into medicine.
She was supposed to be starting her second week of AP classes, already earning college credit as a sophomore. In fact, all of her classes are honors classes.
"This year is the first year were they'll be taking AP classes, so she's enrolled in AP European History. She's enrolled in a G3 Honors class," said Ridge View High School teacher Jennifer McCleod-Crady. "Every class she has is an honors class. She's enrolled in seminar classes, human anatomy where she memorizes every muscle in the human body. Very very high level work."
Her classmates are a tight group and are taking the news of Gabbie's disappearance hard.
"The conversations we're having is staying positive, make sure we can bring her home so were focused on looking at what she's done for our program and just talked and laughed about the things she has done," said McLeod-Crady.
Students also say Gabbie is the best dresser around. Her signature accessory, according to friends, is a black bow tie.
They all plan to wear black bow ties in Gabbie's honor when she returns to school.
The 15-year-old vanished from her northeast Columbia during the early morning hours of August 18.
An acquaintance of the family has been charged with kidnapping, but the teen has still not been found.

This sickens me. I'm so sick of these desperate ass, low self esteem having ass women and their need for a man... Any man to be with them... Even at the safety of their children. Especially their teenaged daughters. That's something I will never understand.

I feel like her mom should be charged with something too. She's been lying. Was it ever confirmed (by surveillance, time clock, etc.) that she really went to work?

Sister, Former In-Law React to Arrest of Freddie Grant
Elgin, SC (WLTX) -- Richland County Sheriff's Deputies spent much of the day searching the home of 52-year-old Freddie Grant, the man charged with kidnapping 15-year-old Gabbiee Swainson.
Just beyond the crime tape next door to his home sat Grant's sister Cynthia, who called the charges against her brother a misunderstanding.
"He's not a violent person, he keeps to himself, he minds his own business he works hard, to try to make a living and he'll try to do anything he can for a person," said Cynthia Grant. She says her brother has daughters and grandchildren of his own and wouldn't do that to someone eles's child.
Grant's sister also responded to questions about her brother's criminal history. Sheriff Lott said Grant had pervious drug, assualt, and domestic violence charges. Ms. Grant said her brother's record with the law happened a long time ago.
"That was his past and that's been many years ago, It's not like it was a year or two ago, that's been live over ten, fifteen years ago right now when all that happened so it not like something that recently happened," she said.
Grant says her brother helped raise Gabbiee, and was involved with her mother.
"I think she ran away because my brother didn't have anything to do with her being missing," said Cynthia Grant.
Everyone does not agree with that assessment. Donna Hudson says her aunt Ollie was married to Grant for several years. She's has no doubt that Freddie Grant had something to do with Gabbiee's disappearance.
"When I first saw Gabbiee missing, I didn't even know he was dealing with the mother in any way when I first seen her, and I just said you don't think Fred got that one either do you? And low and behold yes it was him."
Hudson lives a few houses down from Grant's Kelly Street home in Elgin. She sat and watched as law enforcement swept through the neighborhood. She said Grant was a charmer, but that nice layer didn't run deep. She worries he's harmed other children.
"He's a monster and I always though he was, I always thought it was something strange about him," said Hudson.
Another neighbor said he did not know much about Grant, but could not believe the search and investigation had landed in their neighborhood.
Deputies tracked around with dogs and throughout various locations in Elgin, still searching for anything that could bring Gabbiee home, and while Grant's family and former in-law don't agree on his involvement they both hope Gabbiee comes home safely.
"God knows I pray that baby's okay," said Hudson.
"I really hope that wherever she's at she comes home. I hope that nothing happens to her," said Cynthia Grant.

That mother should be charged with something and arrested. She lied to officers and that is against the law, and not only that, I have no doubt she knows way more than she is letting on. She likely knew the man kidnapped her daughter, and she probably helped him do so.
