There's a whole lot of horror headed to MTV.

According to TVLine, Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson's "Scream" franchise, which kicked off in 1996, is getting its own TV series.

Though the show's development is still in its early stages, Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley are on board to executive produce the project. The former MTV executives -- and the brains behind "Laguna Beach" and "Teen Mom" -- are still in search of a writer to pen the script. The Hollywood Reporter confirms the report.

Originally starring Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Neve Campbell, "Scream" spawned three sequels and grossed $330 million worldwide.

This isn't the first time MTV has turned a successful flick into a TV show. The network's series "Teen Wolf," based on the 1985 film starring Michael J. Fox, stars Tyler Posey as a young werewolf struggling to the life of a normal teenager.

My first thought was "seriously?" but MTV didn't screw up Teen Wolf so maybe they will do a good job with this show, too.
