I know here we go again. I am not surprise by some of the white kids bias responses. Hell we know were they get that ish from. However I fell we need to do better with ours.. not in terms of racism but some of the kids did not have alot of confidence in their own skin color.




Anderson Cooper 360 Takes a Close Look at Children, Parents and Race

CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360° teamed up with a renowned child development psychologist to measure children’s thoughts about race by recreating and updating the famous Doll Test of the 1940s. The original Doll Test explored how African -American children interpret race, discrimination and stigma. Sixty years later, AC 360° and a team of psychologists led by Professor Margaret Beale Spencer, designed and executed a pilot study to help us answer one major question: where are we today?

In the special series airing the week of May 17th and titled "Black or White: Kids on Race", CNN anchors Anderson Cooper and Soledad O’Brien will share with the viewers the children’s answers and the conclusions our researchers drew from their responses. Later we spoke to groups of parents for their thoughts and reactions. One conclusion our pilot study revealed surprised Spencer, who has been a leading researcher in this field for over 30 years, and that is that the research suggests that children set their opinions on race at a very early age and maintain those opinions. After watching this series, parents of all races, will see that children are not colorblind and that talking to them about race is crucial.

In the original Doll Test, Kenneth and Mamie Clark viewed the results as evidence that children had internalized racism caused by discrimination and segregation. The study was cited in the landmark Supreme Court Case of Brown versus Board of Education, which outlawed segregation in education. CNN aims to spark a national discussion about what has changed and what hasn’t more than half a century later.

Why be shocked at the kids reponse?? Its learned at home and in society.

There are grown folks on here for example that think just like these kids.

That's why parents need to tell their children early on that black is beautiful, not negative, not dirty, is smart and capable. Because the tv will tell them something different.

Parents have gotten lax with the children in a lot of areas.

Those little kids grow up. In the 90s, I was a little kid.

What is so scary is that most of these kids don't even stop to think. Black = bad. They point it out right away, without blinking. Fingers moving fast, pointing with conviction, voices loud and clear. Terrifying.

What the hell are the parents of these kids doing? Do they sit the children down to marathon's of Cops all day. SMDH

That's why it's ridiculous to think a child can be deprogrammed as they get older. The learning starts as babies with dolls of different complexions, diverse bedtime stories etc that show kids they are all on the same level. God bless the parents of the little boy and girl who refused to show preference for one over the other. I hope the parents of the little white children see their handy work because the kids had to get those views from somewhere.

I asked my own daughter (she is the only black kid in her class) about hair and color and what type and color she wants. She always picked her color and her hair type. She told me, Momma you said I was pretty right? So if YOU tell me I am pretty I must be pretty. Her logic was amazing and funny at the same time.

What still strikes me is how everyone (media) suddenly gives a damn about blacks. Now everyone is ''exploring'' our plight, and trying to put themselves ''in our shoes''. As blacks we need to push our way to the top, and showcase our success or else whites and other non-blacks will continue to believe that we are no good and un-successful. We have to SHOW them who we are, not let them tell us who we are.

This has more to do with the their parents lacking self-esteem. I want them to go to some educated well adjusted black kids home.

And you have dumb ass idiots on here arguing about the irrelevance of black history. Clearly our identity is lost, and we don't even see that as a problem. But lost identity is the foundation of bigger problems. The bigger problems cannot be solved with a crack in the foundation (lost of self-identity). Psychology always exposes the ugly truth, I love it.

And people wonder why our community is in shambles.
