iPhone Slave Trade - Johann Hari reveals where
WASHINGTON:
President Barack Obama and the late Steve Jobs had a terse exchange last February, over Apple out-sourcing the manufacturing of its famous products.
The New York Times had reported on this matter last February, and had said that when Jobs was about to give an answer, Obama interrupted him with a query and asked 'what would it take to make iPhones in the United States?'
It wasn't long ago that Apple used to brag about its products being made in America, but nowadays almost none of the 70 million iPhones, 30 million iPads and 59 million other products sold last year, are made in America.
According to an insider, Obama had asked, "Why can't that work come home?" and Jobs' reply was clear-cut, "those jobs aren't coming back".
That wasn't the first time that Obama and Jobs had a standoff. Jobs' biography says that the Apple founder had told the US President that he was "headed for a one-term presidency", mainly due to his administration's business policies, the Politico reported.
According to the biography, written by Walter Isaacson, Jobs was an admirer of Chinese business practices and was a critic for the US regulations as well as labor rules.

People like Jobs and other CEOS are only out for themselves.
It's funny when people say that we shouldn't impose higher taxes on the rich because they are the ones who do all the job-hiring... implying that if we tax the rich more heavily there will be less jobs to go around.
But if they are all outsourcing and hiring Mahatma and Zing Lang to do the work... then those jobs aren't benefiting Americans anyway.

Only reason why these CEO's say the jobs aren't coming back is b/c they don't wanna pay American workers the fair wages for it. Cheaper to outsource. Such is life.

I'm sure he was as it allowed him to get a product that he sold for $500.00 too be made for probably $100.00.
Labor rules dictate that you treat your workers right and pay them a livivng wage.
Yes, I heard Jobs was a total asshole to his workers and others he did business with.
Re: President Obama and the late Steve Jobs tersed exchanged over outsourcing
What dumb question for Obama to ask. He knows damn well those jobs are not coming back because not even Mexicans are willing to work for 10 cents a day.
Apple and many of these other countries/companies have found a limitless supply of cheap labor in Asia and that exploitation will not stop until those people rise up against their governments.
Also, isn't it funny that in the case of African conflict diamonds we put it on ourselves to stop that exploitation? Goes to show that when its in the best interest for first world countries to exploit the rest of the world the US/UN/we/they could give a fuck.

yeah but some of us also share the blame as we clamour for these products such as the iphone and continue to sing the praises of a meglomaniac named STEVE JOBS. This man is so ruthless that he had certian countries in Europe ban Samsung from entering the markets.

I agree. The only Apple product I own is an Ipod and it was a gift.
I don't see why people are obsessed with the Iphone and the Ipad (especially the Ipad).

It's horrible, outsources is nothing but bad for Americans and Chinese workers alike. The Chinese work in below standard condition laboring over the products they are required to construct. I heard they're very deadly chemicals being used when the Chinese are working too.
It's bad for us too because we are not even getting jobs and it's effecting the socio-economic structure of Americans. The gap between the wealthy and poor is growing more and more. That and our economy is suffering because of outsourcing.
It's funny, most of the media have you believe that Jobs was this amazingly great person, they never tell you the whole story.
