Could there be a Legion on earth?

Not the Legion Jesus divided up, put into unclean animals and cast into the sea.

I am talking about something in a human body with 3 or more souls inside of it. Is this possible? Could it be dismissed as schizophrenia?

Could they each follow a different religion or form of worship and not conflict?

It is interesting that a Legion is defined a demon, as well as an army. Armies fight wars, wars = massive death and destruction.

3 or more souls? No. 3 or more personalities? Hell yeah. But a personality is not a soul. And some personalities definitely resemble characters in Dante's Inferno.

The root of the word "personality" = "persona" from the latin word meaning "mask" or "theatrical costume". Think about this. I am a soul, but I have a personality.

Like I have a coat. I put it on and take it off in response to external cues. I can have more than one coat: my winter coat will not do for late spring nights. My summer jacket will not do for a November downpour. My parka will not do for a formal soiree. The occasion or weather is my cue, and my coat is the response. I have a whole closet full of coats.

A personality is a group of physical and emotional characteristics and life skills that I assume as a reaction to my circumstances. As my role changes, so does my personality change to fit that role. Most of the time it changes seamlessly, because I do not observe the moment another "personality" comes to the front. This is my definition of my own subconscious behaviour.

I have also noticed that ever since psychology aspired to be a science, it's had difficulty squaring the idea of one personality = one body. Prior to modern psychology, the idea of personal multiplicity was not an alien one, but one that was tolerated.

Freud had to subdivide the human into at least 3 components: the ego, id and superego. These are derived directly from the Hebrew mystical tradition, the explanation is found in the Tanya : ego = the "yetzer tov" or "good inclination", id= the "yetzer hara" or "evil inclination", and the "superego" = the soul.

Jung had to have multiple components as well, at least two, the animus and the anima, with the collective unconscious as a sort of pool of knowledge skills and talents.

Earlier minds like William James explored the idea of personal multiplicity as an ordinary state of being, with some operating aspects functioning more ably in society than others.

So, does Legion exist in me? Yes it does. It functions like an army within. I created each personality in response to a threat or trauma, recruited each soldier as it were. Each one has a function, and duty to respond to similar incidents or occasions as cues come in from my environment. Each has its role or mission, and will not be relieved from it until I decommission it.

But here is what is most important: I am not my Legion, and it is not me, any more than I am the coats in my closet. My Legion is my creation, and it functions exactly as it was created to function, and because I enable it to.
