I'm sorry, I liked Luther and all but I would not be shocked if it were true. Because I had an aunt that lived with diabetes, and she did not die from it. (she died in a fire). I would think that Luther would have taken better precautions to manage his diabetes. My aunt was not rich and she was still able to control her diabetes by going to the docter getting checkups. She even had her leg amputated, but managed to live for many years with it, and died at an older age than Luther.
Also, him being gay does actually give reason to speculate. Because of course in the 80's when he was famous, a lot of famous gay men succumbed to this disease and or contracted Aids due to all of the wild parties, and frequent partners. If he did, it may be revealed later on, just like all of the other stars that allegedly died of natural causes. Either way he was still talented, but I'm sure alot of people think he may have died from Aids related complications.

I have several members of my family who have died from complications of Diabetes. No matter how much money you have, if you do not eat and exercise properly there can be major complications. It is not uncommon to die from complications of Diabetes
NY Mami, its not that there is a generilization, its more so the mystery around the death... when they do not give out an official cause of death statement then it leads you to believe that there was some embarrassment behind the cause...i.e. AIDS....I have a very good gay friend that passed 4 days ago...the family did not want you to call nor see him and he is now being cremated cause of death?????
Not that it matters if you truly care for the person, but that is where the speculation begins...
I have a reason to why I said that statement........ because when I was in High School........ I had a gay friend....... he had a reputation..... not sexual........ he was lil' drama queen....lol....... but EVERYBODY knew who he was........ and he was openly gay....... and it was so obvious..... like the Freshman year...... he was anxious to come out of the closet...... because there are some IGNORANT people....... I was one of the first people that he actually told he was gay...... I told him that I already knew....... and that he didn't have anything to worry about because everybody else knew well....... so he started to get more comfortable bein' himself around everybody....... because other gay students in the school as well..... he eventually told everyone that he was gay.......... he transferred out in Sophomore year though....... because they had opened a school in NYC strictly for gay and lesbian students....... and he wanted to go there........ But in Junior Year....... he had passed away........ and right off the bat....... most of the people had assumed that he died from AIDS..... because he was openly gay...... but come to find........ he had actually died from an annurism(did I spell it right?)...... I guess people are victims of their own stereotypes...... and I am so tired of people thinkin' that only gay people die from AIDS...... when there heterosexuals walkin' around wit' the disease as well.......
MY FOUR FAVORITE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD....

Luther Vandross died 3 years ago today! What a time to bring this up
I remember being at the Taste of Chicago with my ex-boyfriend and hearing about it. So sad.
Anyways I know this wasn't a "where were you thread" but I found that more appropriate.
On topic. No. I do not think it was AIDS. No I do not care if people think it was so because he was gay. No I do not care if he was gay. Yes I do think it was because of diabetes. Yes I do think it was because of his stoke.
Have you ever seen somebody with a preexisting medical condition have a stroke? It messes with their body in ways unimaginable and when it renders them incapable of really taking control of themselves it weighs heavily on their bodies. Let the AIDs thing go to rest and shame on people for bringing that theory up because they didn't release the cause of death. Hello, that shit is private even a damn district attorney couldn't get that type of information without a subpoena, why would any "fan" (fan in quotes because I question anyone who puts this kind of speculation out there) believe they had a right to this information is beyond me.
R.I.P Luther Vandross - "When I say goodbye, it's never for long. 'Cause I believe in the power of love."
January 4, 1959 - April 24, 2008 : A relationship is like a rose. How long it lasts, no one knows.
people have a tendency of speculating....I was only sharing because I am now truly grieving over my friend and there is speculation, because he was gay.....I will admit that I have wondered and questioned myself about the cause of his death, the memorial will be held this friday......only because I felt left out, and I would have wanted him to know that I wouldn't have cared....alot of very coincidential things have happened since his death and this thread is actually one of them. Luther was a great singer! but this thread and my response is probably more closure for me about my friend then it is about what caused Luther's passing....
