I think it should be a requirement of the show, that these heffas show tax returns, income statements, balance sheets, and proof of assets before being allowed on the show. I'm feeling like a lot of these chicks are super regular with bad money management skills.
Jill would buy clothes at Saks, ask for a ridiculous discount and then return the clothes after she wore them to an event. It happened so often that Jill was temporarily "blackballed" from Saks but then Jill wrangled with Saks and was able to have a shopping party there in the fall where she guaranteed that her rich friends would spend a certain amount. She ended up buying a lot of things there and that qualified her for the Diamond Saks credit card that she bragged about to Luann while they were in bed. (anyone else think that scene looked like a soft-core porn?)
I think that many of the Housewives have borrowed extensively to give an appearance that they are very rich when in fact, they are not. Nene from Atlanta is a pefect example. Her husband has borrowed more than $300,000 to help her be on the show.
Jill and Teresa obviously do this as well. Hell, even Alex and Simon did that the first season. The reason why Alex and Simon are in a better financial position now is that they aren't as materialistic as Jill and Teresa are. They may have credit card debt but nothing in the range of Teresa's 11 million dollar debt. They borrow clothes from designers who ask them to wear them. They own their townhouse in Brooklyn and aren't trying to sell it now because they are in need of money! They don't drive leased cars, they don't get plastic surgery, they don't go shopping every week and buy $2000 worth of clothing for their children. They rent summer homes instead of pretend like they own them, cough..Jill.
First season, Jill made so much fun of them for renting a summer house in the Hamptons when she, in fact, didn't even own hers anymore. And Teresa, last year, made fun of Danielle about owing money and being broke, when we see that Teresa actually has WAY more debt than Danielle and is now forced to possibly sell her gaudy house and declare bankruptcy. Teresa also had to sell her Jersey Shore beach house because they are so broke.
Jill and Teresa are blaming the economy for their financial problems when in fact, they are careless about their spending and borrowing. They are all about appearances, are they not? Even dim-witted Kelly has a lot of nice clothes, jewelry, Hermes bags because she got them as gifts from her husband, working as a model and from working as an editor at a fashion magazine. I worked in the fashion world for a bit and I received a lot of nice things for free, so I know how that goes.
Bethenny, on the other hand, never pretended to be rich. She admitted that she borrowed a lot of clothes and she lived in a small apartment on the Upper East Side and often couldn't afford to pay her rent and worried about taking an expensive cab ride. That's why her career has been so important to her because she has to support herself because she doesn't have a husband to fall back on and support her.
The point is that Jill is a big ole PHONY!
