Last year I was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder. I recently agreed to get on antidepressant starting with 10 mg to now 20mg. I was asked if I would like to get on mood stabilizers but I declined. I am now having spells where it seems like I am tearing up to crying over every little thing. I was wondering...

Inner thoughts about being “feminine”, patriarchy, and what it means to me as a black woman

Hi all, I just wanted to share my thoughts about how some standards for being feminine are extremely shallow and how they entwine with patriarchy in a toxic way. ( this isn’t a conversation on trans people, so pls don’t derail because im talking about bio women) I personally feel like a lot of fonts ( and people IRL in general) conflate being...

If black families/communities of yesteryear didn't do anything else, they could keep a secret. In this age of anything goes and everything is told on multiple social media platforms, it seems unbelievable that previous generations were oftentimes just as messy and scandalous it simply wasn't known or discussed. That's somewhat true. Previous...

So I'm coming to terms with the fact I don't really fully believe in God right now, and never have. I've tried and even thought I was saved at one point but I guess I imagined it. I fear I don't have the capacity to truly believe in anything, right now I'm looking into spirituality and lean towards a different type of God/Source but I'm plagued...

I am tired of trying like four different acids/peels- forgetting which one would interact with the other.. trying to find the right toners ....am/pm moisturizers and serums... I just want a simple routine or products that...

I was talking to my cousin about this who lives in expensive LA. She’s from the south originally and she was saying that while she would love to own a home, nothing beats living by the water and beautiful nature. She said she is fine if it never happens and thinks she’s staying in Cali for the long run. I feel her as we thought about moving...

Frustrating Family Tree

Anyone map out their family tree successfully? I am trying and it's coming together but the huge gaps of time and no records to provide at least some narrative is frustrating. I am talking 20-60 year gaps and migrations from one state to another for seeming no rhyme or reason. Found a probable ancestor in 1820s but nothing related to the...

How are people handling insurance in retirement?

Pretty much the above question. I have thought a lot about my portfolio, but have not given much thought to what I am going to do for health insurance in retirement. I looked into my job, and unfortunately, they do not seem to offer anything for folks into retirement, so I am on my own with that. How have you all tackled it? What do you plan...

My family friend has been desperately trying to reconnect with his 3 girls after a bitter divorce in the 90s. He told me he had an old number for the eldest girl and texts her every year on her birthday. He gets no response. I found all three girls on Facebook. Should I reach out and give them their fathers number? I’m trying...

I have my first job interview for a higher position than I've ever had before! I am on the short list. This is another level than I'm used to. I am so grateful but know that the stakes are much higher. and..I'm kind of lost. This is all kind of new to me. The interview is a two-part: a written assessment that will be sent to me...

I tried to make some peanut butter cookie brownies. I'm pretty sure I was supposed to layer it, like one layer cookie mix and then the next layer is brownie mixer, etc. But I just poured the chocolate in first and then the pb mix on top. It's not "pretty" because the chocolate surfaced during the baking process but it is delicious...
