Disneyland's expansion plans reveal possible Wakanda development
Fans have noticed the Black Panther world could be coming

By Dallas The New ALT 105.3 and KROQ

Ahead of Disneyland's reopening in April, Disney revealed their new DisneylandForward initiative that would lead to an expansion of the park with new attractions, dining & shopping areas.
While Disney hasn't given specifics on what the upcoming attractions, shops & restaurants will be, fans have been digging deep into the concept art and have some uncovered some clues. One of those is a potential area dedicated to Black Panther with what looks to be a Wakanda development.

Such an area would fall in line with Disney's increase in Marvel attractions around the world and with Avengers Campus coming to California Adventure. Other potential new areas could be in the works for 'Frozen,' 'Toy Story,' 'TRON,' Peter Pan,' 'Tangled' & 'Zootopia'.

i wonder if disney will even do this now considering how much money they've lost during the pandemic.

Apparently Disney plans to submit plans to Anaheim in 2023. The pandemic may slow them down, but maybe they want to generate more excitement about Disneyland, as it's so expensive to go there these days.

What would they add? They were high tech, but outside of that there wasn’t anything that could make a whole park out of. Plus, they already have Tomorrowland. They could maybe do a Wakanda themed ride based of the flying machines we saw in the big fight scene or make a Marvel Park and have different themed rides and small locations to match.

This sounds so freaking stupid lol. If anything they should build a marvel universe.
Here's something about Marvel at Disneyland from the LA Times

Thwarted, like many plans, by the pandemic was the opening of the Marvel superhero-themed Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure in Anaheim. But now comes news that the land, which will include a family-focused interactive Spider-Man ride, is set to launch June 4. The date was unveiled Thursday on a web conference hosted by Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, experiences and products, and featured Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige.

Disneyland Resort is set to reopen its two theme parks on April 30, with tickets going on sale to the public at large on April 15. A ticket, as well as an advance reservation, will be required to visit Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure. Avengers Campus is in an area of California Adventure that once housed the kid-focused A Bug’s Land and will include the thrill ride Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission Breakout!

Last year, just prior to pandemic-forced stay-at-home orders and nationwide shut-downs, Disney announced the land was nearly complete and would open in July 2020. That date obviously came and went as the Disneyland Resort has been shuttered for more than a year.

Construction, however, was finished during the pandemic, and fans who have attended Disney California Adventure’s food-focused event the Touch of Disney have been seen angling for photos of gleaming Quinjet, the sparkling-bright silver aircraft often used by the Avengers. It sits atop one of the land’s key infrastructures and is partly visible from the outskirts of Cars Land.

In a slight pivot from towering re-creations of other universes — see the magical realms of Universal’s “Harry Potter"-inspired lands or Disney’s own takes on the “Avatar” and “Star Wars” franchises, including the recent and especially alien Galaxy’s Edge — Avengers Campus relies more heavily on the familiar. Its setting is essentially the real world — a place in Southern California for the Avengers to meet and recruit potential new collaborators.

I haven't been to Disneyland in eons. I'm looking forward to visiting when the new grandson is big enough to enjoy it. Looking up the possibility of Disneyland building a Wakanda Land, I came across this article in Variety about a mural dedicated to Chadwick Boseman. The picture is heart touching.

Wakanda forever.

Disneyland unveiled a Chadwick Boseman mural in its Downtown Disney shopping district. The artwork from Nikkolas Smith shows the late Marvel star giving the Wakanda salute to a young fan wearing a “Black Panther” mask.

Smith shared photos of his work on Thursday via Instagram, in which he is giving the Wakanda salute in front of the mural.

“This one is special. My King Chad tribute is now on a wall on display at Downtown Disney,” he wrote. “It is a full circle moment for me: my final two projects as a Disney Imagineer last summer were working on the children’s hospital project and the Avengers Campus.”

The child in the mural is wearing a hospital gown, to honor the late “Black Panther” star who visited children with cancer at St. Jude campus, while waging a private battle with the disease. The installation is titled “King Chad.”

The Marvel website has information abut the new Avengers Campus opening June 4 at Disneyland.

Here’s a snippet from their article, which is worth looking at if you’re a Disneyland or Avenger’s fan. The article has quite a few pictures.

The time has finally come! Suit up, grab whatever you need for the next mission, and get ready because Avengers Campus, an entirely new land focused around discovering, recruiting and training the next generation heroes, will open June 4, 2021 at Disneyland Resort, inside Disney California Adventure Park. (Ticket and Park reservation required. California only residents, per state guidance.)

“We are so excited to soon welcome our guests to Avengers Campus, the first land dedicated to Super Heroes at Disney California Adventure Park,” said Ken Potrock, president of the Disneyland Resort. “Guests of all ages can find their powers and our cast members will unite to create these special moments and memories.”

At Avengers Campus, guests of all ages can find their powers as they take an active role alongside some of their favorite Super Heroes, with a chance to live out their own heroic story. Whether that be slinging webs with Spider-Man, trying out inventive new foods, experiencing heroic encounters, and even teaming up with the Avengers and their allies, all recruits are invited to join in on the action.

“Avengers Campus will be a place where fans and guests can finally step into the universe they love, and stand alongside some of their favorite heroes,” said Dave Bushore, vice president of Franchise Creative & Marketing for Marvel Studios. “The optimism inherent in Avengers Campus captures the diversity, power and teamwork these extraordinary characters possess, and now they come together to unite people from all over the world under one guiding principle: We are stronger together.”

Wondering what you’ll find inside when the land opens in June 2021?

The New York Times offers a podcast discussing Disney’s problematic past. I haven’t listened to it, as it's long, but there is also a short summary article.

40 Acres and a Movie

Disney can’t change its problematic past. But can it make a new future with Marvel?

Disney owns a piece of every living person’s childhood. Now it owns Marvel Studios, too. The co-hosts Jenna Wortham and Wesley Morris look at depictions of racist tropes and stereotypes in Disney’s ever-expanding catalog. The company has made recent attempts to atone for its past. But can it move forward without repeating the same mistakes?

Earlier this year — during “season three of the pandemic” — Jenna binged the M.C.U., the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While she appreciated the moral messaging of the movies, which are centered on a fight against evil forces, she was appalled by the lack of nonwhite characters. “You mean to tell me they’ve been making these movies for over a decade — 12 years — and you have still not managed to decenter the whiteness of this universe?” she exclaimed.

Jenna and Wesley talked about these offerings from the Marvel universe: “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), “WandaVision” (2021) and “The Eternals” (2021).

The Disney of Your Childhood and Now

Wesley and Jenna discussed how rewatching classic Disney movies with adult eyes has been unsettling, from the colonial undertones in “The Little Mermaid” (1989) to the Orientalist tropes peddled in “Lady and the Tramp” (1955).

This SF Gate/Chronicle article talks about what a mess Tomorrowland has always been at Disneyland. It wasn’t well thought out back in the early 50’s, and it was finished in a rush. Lots of fixes were tried, but a lot were flops. The article doesn’t mention the flying saucers that were on some sort of a layer of air. I was always jealous my brothers got to go on the saucers. I wasn’t tall enough. The ride was a putz though, and didn’t last long.

There was a boat ride, with boats that looked like sharks, which looked really cool. It wasn’t on tracks, and kids kept crashing the boats, so they pulled the plug on it. The article has a picture of the shark boats.
I thought the article was a fun read, and it points out a lot of park design issues. I”ll bet the discussions of new rides/lands must get pretty interesting sometimes.
