It is either your niche, or you are not pinning enough. Pinterest is time-consuming. It takes a lot of work to get views. You need 3k pins plus. Also, you need clickable pins. I need to learn how to do infographics.

How often are you pinning?
Only once a week. I am guessing that is not nearly enough.

I figured as much. So in this case should we just post once per week at a min and then just make sure we have at least 10 per month? I'm trying to do at least 2-3 but it is time-consuming especially when you work and have to deal with social media.
Are you getting traffic from social media? I'm going to guess no as the companies do not like to give free traffic out. They make money from selling traffic through ads.

Focus on learning one traffic source at a time. Bouncing around to other traffic sources is a waste of time.

Just focus on what you need to do to get better at Pinterest.
I only really seem to get traffic from Google and Bing. Pinterest doesn't bring in much for me. I must be doing something wrong.
That's to be expected unless you are specifically targeting Pinterest over Google. Google is the largest search engine followed by YouTube and then nothing else is close in terms of market share.

Whelp, Google rolled out an update targeting review sites. My traffic was down 30% yesterday. I dropped from the first spot on keywords that were making good money.

I'm hopeful I'll see some recovery over the next week or so. I don't understand how old forum posts with incorrect information should be considered better content.

Thanks for sharing. I have quite a few product roundups. I'm going to start focusing on more how-to's.

I follow a blogger whose site is about 99% roundups and approximately 300 words each. She's going to get hit hard!

Sounds that way. Article stated that Google is penalizing "templated" content which is a nice way of saying: unoriginal copy/paste jobs.

What Google says is happening and what is actually happening are completely different. The sites that are ranking are all pulling images and other information straight from Amazon.

For the majority of SERPs I've looked at, the quality of the information provided has gone down. Rewritten product descriptions would be an improvement.

Another week.
Last week, I think created 5 pins. LMAO. I set it up to do auto-schedule, one per day. I know that's not close to being enough. 2 of those happened to be infographics so I'm gonna see if the click rate improves with that method.

I wrote two articles and revised one.
I set up linktree which you need if you are gonna do Instagram.

I looked into low content KDP thanks to that other thread. It is something I can actually use for my website.

As for this week, I'm gonna write two articles and do at least 5 more fresh pins. I know. I know. Then I am going to post twice on IG.

I'm going to post 3 long form articles this week and at least a dozen pins on Pinterest. I'm still stacking on Instagram, but since it doesn't bring much traffic, I don't feel so bad.

Two of my posts are on the first page of Google, so I'm pretty happy about that.

I am going to work on pinning more this week!

So, should I not do any round-up posts due to the Google update?

Word count is only important for ranking in Google.

The easiest strategy is to match the word count of the site that is ranking first for the keyword you are targeting. The more advanced strategy is to use a service that analyses search results and gives you a word count. (Page Optimizer Pro, SurferSEO, Frase.io, CognitiveSEO, Cora)

Higher word counts do better for a couple of reasons. The first is that it makes it easier for Google to determine what the page is about. The second is that it helps the page to rank for long-tail keywords.

Is anyone going to read your entire 3,000-word article? Probably not.

People will read everything under a subheading that answers a specific question or describes something in detail. Keep in mind that you're not writing for one person, you're writing for a group of people.
Do you write all your articles yourself? If so, very inspiring. There's no way I could write 15 quality posts in one week.

Do you use SEO in your articles?

I only wrote 7 articles and revised a few or whatever. I'm seeing a small amount of growth in Pinterest traffic, but not from my latest pins. I'll try to keep adding pins and trying different things out.

My goal for this week is to not cry myself to sleep at night.

Every day is slightly worse and I'm now looking at just shy of a 50% drop in traffic. I'm expecting more than a 50% drop in revenue, but it'll be a few more days to see how bad it is.

The general rule of thumb is to give an update a couple of weeks before making any conclusions. Lots of search results are filled with garbage results that are worse than what was there before.

You also want to have a large enough sample of a certain type of post on your site so you can judge what works and what doesn't for you. Without that, you'll never be able to tell who is offering good advice based on their experiences and who is just repeating things they read.

They were how-to posts which by their nature are very easy to write. For example, if you had a cooking blog and were writing articles on how to dice fruits or vegetables. Dicing an onion isn't that different than dicing a shallot or potato.

The photo setup will also be the same. So after the first article is done, you've got a template for all of the others. It eliminates lots of sticking points in the process where you're unsure of what to do next or the best way to do something.

I'm targeting Google for traffic. I absolutely do as much on-page SEO for my articles as possible. I'm not interested in taking photos and writing articles that no one is going to read.

Do you blog full-time? ...I only ask because I'd eventually like to. In June this will be my full year and it's definitely an industry that requires a ton of patience. Some youtubers called it that Google would hit affiliate marketers hard so I only have a few articles focused on that and pretty much stick to how-to as well and informational posts.

I have a love-hate relationship with pinterest.

Does anyone on here use the story pin feature at all? I get a lot of views, but it sucks they can click through to the blog with that feature. I hope they change it.

I don't use Pinterest's story feature as much as I used to. I always include a slide at the end promoting my website. It's not the same as a link, but it's better than nothing.

Yes, my website is my primary source of income. I worked really hard through 2020 to write articles and build traffic. In November I broke $100 in revenue per day, which was about 2 years after I started.

My plan was to start travelling full-time  once more places started to open up, but that's currently looking less likely.

How are you monetizing your site? Is it only with affiliate marketiing?

I really want to get accepted into one of the ad programs before they get stricter with who they accept. I plan to do new digital products every month for at least a year

Ugh, this sounds awful. I hope things work out and you are able to reclaim the traffic. It may take a bit but you figured it out the first time.

You had huge traffic. Next time you hit the magic number, submit to those top ad agencies. I don't think they kick you off once you meet the requirement.

Tell me about it. Mediavine upped it lasts a year from 25k to 50k. It is gonna take a long time for my site to hit 10k so I am gonna make products for it and sell them on Amazon.

I am using 4 affiliate networks for physical goods. Amazon is the biggest piece of that because even with low commissions it converts better than everything else.

It is possible in my niche to promote digital courses, products, and services. However, I would not personally use any of them, so I won't promote them.

I don't like display ads, so I was putting off adding them.

It's like traveling 6 months back in time over the course of 2 days. All of the other updates either didn't affect my site or gave it a traffic boost. I have pages that were formerly ranking first now on the third or fourth page getting no traffic.

How did it go last week? Any goals this week?
Last week I wrote 2 posts and this week will likely be the same. I have a lot going on personally so that's a more reasonable goal.

I hope to return to 3 posts per week soon.

Two is good enough, I swear. I've seen people's stats and there have been times where did wrote zero and they were still able to increase traffic. Of course, this happened months later.

I've come to the conclusion that I suck at Pinterest. LMAO. How is it possible that I've created 23 pins only. Wow. I need to ask someone on Fiverr for help.

My traffic has stopped dropping. I have a list of things I'm going to do to hopefully get the traffic back.

I stopped doing Pinterest and then my pins from 2-3 weeks ago have started to get views. I hit over 100 outbound clicks over the past 30 days. That's a big improvement from 63.

I think I'm going to start to look for ways to scale Pinterest posting. I can see the appeal of having hundreds or thousands of pins to a site, but I'm only willing to spend a limited amount of time on it.

You've got to figure out a system of creating pins to make finishing them easier. Have templates so you can quickly make an image, come up with a title, write a description, etc. You want to have a plan so you don't have to spend time figuring out each step, most of them will be automatic.

I feel like it takes a couple of weeks for Pinterest to properly index pins. My pins start taking off after about 10-14 days.

It's pretty quiet around here. How's everyone? I'm updating my blog 1 to 2 times a week. I want to bump it back up to 3 posts per week soon.

After Pinterest mistakingly deleted my account (and restored it), I'm finally starting to gain a little traction.

I wrote one article last week. I will do two this week, hopefully. After one month, it appears that I've gotten a little over 100 visitors.

The google sandbox caused me to slack big time.

I do plan on uploading a low-content journal on Amazon.

Interesting! Will the journal have links back to your blog?
