Lecrae should have kept this in his drafts. It's not giving what he expected it to give.

I think he is one of the most talented rappers out there but people won’t see that because of church stigmatization.

He’s tried for years to break away from that image. I hope he’s successful this time. It would be a shame if his talent continues to be boxed in.

I think he is talented too. How did he get boxed in? Not familiar with his trajectory. Who is boxing him in, the church or secular music industry? Did he present as a Christian artist first?

If so, think part of the issue may be that he (and other artists in similar situations) should just come out the gate with who they are once they know. Instead of using the church or Christianity as their stepping stone as many do (e.g. coming out as a Christian artist) and then seeming to backtrack or switch gears ---if I am articulating it correctly. Then who they are will be clear from day one.

I believe you can be talented without compromising if Christianity is your call. And believe what that entails is what God Himself says. If you deviate, or see different than you are simply doing you and that is okay too. We all have free will. Be you, without explanation because you are grown. But we can't try to make God fit us. I'm talking true relationship not legalism or religiosity. Because there are many things some churches say/imply that have nothing to do with God.

As a writer, I get and have seriously battled that struggle.

Much respect for Lecrae for saying this. I hope more people feel more comfortable to express this without getting a lot of backlash. Praising the savior is very good but I don't think Life it self is about just praising and praying and communion (bread & wine) all day every day long. I think the point is to live life through the free will but understand the consequences of bad decisions you make. Live Love Laugh. God is love and spread the love in life. Be kindful to others and such.

Being sheltered in the church all day is not ideal. How are you really living (or experiencing) life if you not getting the experience in because you wanna be all squeezed up in the corner with the bible in your hand all the time. Learn to live a little. I think that's what Life was given to us for.

Im sort of the same. I would enjoy chruch if it was more focused on the word only, thats actually my favorite part about chruch. Im not into the singing, the get togethers, the people etc. I just want to hear/learn about God and Jesus.

I am similar. I also do not celebrate Christmas or Easter. I'm learning to celebrate God everyday not just on Sunday.

I agree, that many Churches have flaws, things that need to be worked on and people who arent there for Christ but for selfish reasons. However it seems trendy to just bash church all the time.

There are great churches(that arent mainstream) and many are beneficial to people( a place to fellowship with others, helps to build a relationship to God and a place that tends to help alot of people in need whether its giving food, finding shelter, marriage counseling and etc).

When it comes to lecrae, he seems to want acceptance from the world, other worldly rappers and to be in the same category as them.

It's just not going to work unless your going to compromise in some way. It doesnt matter if you try to separate from Church, the World isnt going to uplift Christ centered music. I mean it is the World.

I don't listen to lecrae cause he seems to have different motives for his music and it shows in his most recent music as well. Hes all over the place. He is talented though.

When it comes to Christian Hip Hop I prefer S.O., mouthpiece, eshon burgandy(his old stuff), shai linne and a few others.

This.

I feel like he's confused on weather he wants to be a Christian rapper or mainstream.

I low key think he wants to be mainstream but is afraid of what Christians will think of him.

I agree with you, I also believe hes afraid of Christian's withdrawing their financial support if he goes the opposite direction. There is somewhat of a built in support base when your music is Christ centered.

To me his music now sounds like clean secular rap.

I could be wrong but if he goes the opposite direction, I dont see him being as successful(financially & support wise) as he is now. The average rap consumer is going to pick & hype up the likes of a lil baby, drake, and etc over Lecrae.

If he wants to go down the conscious lane, I dont see him being picked over a j cole, kendrick and etc.

I think these are some of the things that hold lacrae back from just going straight secular.

The purpose of Church is to be a means to fellowship with others, dive into the word and assist you with your personal walk with God. Church can be at someone's house with two or more people.

The issue comes when people make church and the people in it(like the pastor) an idol which leads to so much disappointment and dysfunction in certain churches.

Everyone has to accept responsibility for their own salvation.

No where in the bible does it say to be sheltered in church all day? Where did you get that from?

Also your post contains new age beliefs. Thats not exactly what the gift of life was given to us for(but if your not a Christian/ follower of Christ and his word, of course you have the right to believe what you want).

There is a lot of religiosity involved in the church and not enough focus on having a personal and intimate relationship with God. There is a lot of pastor idolization and I think for Lacrae, that idolization was is a trickle down. He is a public figure- someone who relays the gospel through music and people hold him to the same standards. It's not fair, his walk with God is between him and God and his calling and conviction is individual just like it's supposed to be.

I love Lecrae he is my favorite Christian rapper. He had a hard life growing up I can see why he has an identity crisis. I hope that God can truly heal him so that he can continue spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ in his songs. God is using him

He paraphrases and posts this everyday? Strange. This must be the new scam to run on religious folks.

Probably has had a lot of people talking to him about how he is more “Wordly”, and not in line with the teachings of being ‘in the world but not of the world”
