I haven't wore a skirt in a minute. I used to wear a lines and straight skirts but my hips are much wider than they used to be. I'm finding that the waist will be too narrow to go over my hips and butt or it will be snug then once its up to my waist, it's too big for my waist and loose on my legs.

You can also get your clothing tailored if it isn't something stretchy, a lot of celebrities do this

I love a pencil skirt, occasionally an a line skirt. If something doesn’t stretch, I get it tailored.

Not all pears are created equal. I'm a short pear leaning towards hourglass with great legs. For your particular problem, may I suggest choosing more high waisted styles of the types of skirts you used to wear? I think that like me, your narrowest point is not at your waist but higher.

Like everyone has already stated, a stretchy pencil skirt is your friend. True wrap skirts are also great because you can adjust the fit. Tulip skirt work too.
Because of my height, A-lines are harder for me and to hit exactly right.

Straight, bubble, and pleats are an absolute no. I'm a sight to behold in a high waisted mini skirt (but bae and my oldest get the vapors when I wear it so only sparingly, lol)

I don't think I'm pear shape but my waist to hip ratio don't fit skirts. So I never bother. Dresses only

Is this type of skirt ok for pear shapes? I do not like tight or stretchy pencil skirts and miniskirts. I used to have a couple like the second picture in post #3 but it’s annoying when they blow up in the wind (even with extra undergarments on).

Eventually I would like to invest in a wool skirt for the cold months, but since it’s a thick material should it be avoided altogether?

I think it would be appropriate but you need the right undergarments with that material so the lumps and bumps don't show (that is if you have any),

I’m trying to tailor my clothes myself but just can’t figure out how to fit the waist. I’m thinking about adding a zipper. None of the non stretchy bottoms I have are the perfect fit.

The skirt I want to wear is more like this but stops at the knee so it doesn’t flow like the hem on this. Do your skirts like this have a zipper or buttons?

I think I'd try getting one piece of clothing tailored to me & see if it's something I can do myself.

Good luck!
