She says that the outrage while understandable is wasted energy. instead of giving free publicity to racist and non inclusive brands, we should give our Black dollars to inclusive, independent, or Black owned companies. She talks about how Fashion Fair went out of business due to folks not keeping up with what was made for us. It's a good video and true.

ETA: Apparently fashion fair is still around and kicking.

I agree with her...

Except the part about Fashion Fair! Lordt, Fashion fair wasn't keeping up with the times - stuck in 1975 with red based foundations. Which is a shame because at one point they hired Sam Fine to revamp the line and then it went kaput.

I said in another thread, look into Iman, Danessa Myricks, AJ Crimson, APDG (they just need to get their production and shipping sh!t together!!), etc.

We do not have to beg these companies to include us, beg us to spend our money, make us an afterthought!

Fashion fair refused to change with the times all those damn foundations leaned very orange in undertone. I actually got my makeup done at a fashion fair counter in high school I looked like they were about to close the casket it was horrible packaging looked dated, and the marketing was extremely dated as well. You gotta keep up to keep your business viable they either chose not to or didn't know how to.

I agree with the undertones of Fashion Fair and honestly someone needs to revive them with a great foundation formula. However I agree with the larger point about supporting Black brands or more inclusive brands.

you're right. Belk and Dillards, stores in the south still have Fashion Fair counters

Ivy lives in Chicago. State Street and River Oaks still have Fashion Fair counters.

If you are going to put a company in the grave, get it right.

They are Chicago owned.

The issue is and always has been mismanagement and tone deaf to consumers. The same problems with Ebony and Jet. You have a bunch of old ass out of touch Black people running Johnson and they bully and silence younger employees. I had friends that worked there and it was a living hell.

I use Fashion Fair stick foundation on Teak for my contour. It's really good.

I just learned about Danessa Myricks. I’m going to go get matched today. They are at this local cosmetics store here.

Yes, I understand people want quality, but you have these “gurus” come on and slap foundations on their face without knowing the science, logistics of the industry they claim they know so well, that for about all those 200 products from skincare, different brushes, concealer, they are alll owned by the same 1 or 2 parent companies, Lancôme, Mac, Orgins, Estée Lauder, bacially her daughter owns everything, but my point is where so quick to sh!t on start up from our own about the customer service, ugly packaging and don’t even give them a chance to build, there are plenty of cosmetic brands that cater to darker tones, blac minerals, black up, plain Jane beauty, iman cosmetics, I have yet to people review these brands in a large mass like I do when Nats drops their yellow foundation right after bobbi brown, and right after macs new concealer everyone’s rushed to buy up, I heard that hergivenhair turns out they weren’t even a black owned company l, not that I had a problem with it, but when a black women is selling some bundles she fuckes up 1 order, or gets smart with a customer and she’s “cancelled”. On fashion fair I noticed that they sh!t down their stands and chucked the duces and moved to Paris and Kuwait:disdain. Just my rant. This my be the wrong thread but hey.

I was looking at Danessa Myricks website last night and she has some BEAUTIFUL products I’ll definitely be purchasing soon. Her IG has some stunning looks as well- there’s a post of a glossy black smokey that I’m dying to try.

Fashion Fair still has a big ass counter at Macy's. I just walked past it at Christmas. WTF is she talking about.

Their foundations are greasy AF, never a color match for me, and the ladies at the counter in Marshall Fields on State Street were mean old biddies.

I totally agree. 1000% agree. When I used it it was horrible. The coverage was great but I looked like red Georgia Clay dirt after about 30 minutes. OMG the oil it produced in my face. I can't and won't with Fashion Fair Idgaf who owns it. That was a pure waste of time and money. I'm not paying good money for some mess that has me looking like a pure circus clown.

Her stuff is so pretty I might break my makeup and purchase without getting samples first. Her IG is to die for.

CameraReadyCosmetics.com sells samples for $4.99 I might try that before I commit to a full foundation to make sure I have the right color. But her Illuminators and Colorfixs are high on my list.

Fashion Fair is still around. I’m actually interested in checking them out, but they don’t sell it in my city...I would have to go to LA.

What people don’t realize is that there are some AMAZING black owned businesses. There are great companies like Bahi Cosmetics, KweenCosmetics(not black owned but she’s a POC & has outstanding products!), Juvias Place, Danessa Myricks, AJ Crimson, Fenty, etc. the list goes on. Honestly, you definitely can find some great products from these places. I loved Jackie & Alissa’s video, but at the same time you can’t even really be surprised because Tarte has ALWAYS been a company catered to people of lighter complexions. I loved Ivy’s video, she made some excellent points on how we should give our money to black owned businesses!

This is exactly where I’m going to get matched. Camera ready’s showroom is in my city

Fashion Fair is still alive and kicking. Their foundations have always been too heavy for me, but based on their IG it looks like they're reformulating and relaunching their soufflé foundation. I stan for their blush though, I would 100% be here for them doing a blush/highlight palette. Their biggest issue img is staying on trend and being more current with their product offerings

Fashion Fair is outdated and their foundations are godawful.

Danessa Myricks is a goddess and her products (ESPECIALLY those highlighters) are heavenly. I notice A lot of Black-owned brands, like DM and AJ Crimson who are unknown to "influencers" and general users find success with makeup artists.

Kaylux is another Black woman-owned brand, btw.

I wonder if they're really unknown or just ignored, due to no promo packages or lack of views/likes these brands might bring in for not being mainstream

I feel these days unless these top “influencers” get PR packages or paid it’s not talked about. I’ve seen a few smaller channels talk about DM and rave about her products but sadly they’re overlooked.
