Shondaland’s giant Netflix hit Bridgerton has scored its first major awards recognition with two SAG Award nominations, Drama Series ensemble and Male Actor in a drama series, for Season 1 star Regé-Jean Page.

It was one of several series that were surprisingly shut out completely from the Golden Globe nominations yesterday, with the SAG Awards correcting the oversight.

HBO’s acclaimed limited series I May Destroy You, whose Globes snub has been heavily scrutinized, received a SAG Award nomination for its creator, director and star Michaela Coel in the Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series category.

And Netflix’s Dead To Me, which also was nowhere to be found on the list of 2021 Golden Globe nominations after making a splash at the 2020 Emmys with a slew of noms, landed three mentions, Ensemble in a Comedy Series, and two Female Actor in a Comedy Series nominations for both of its stars Christina Applegate and Lina Cardellini.

With its mix of Jane Austen and Gossip Girl, Bridgerton has taken pop culture by storm since its Dec. 25 debut. Redefining the period drama and romance genres and breaking conventions on race while making global stars out of Page and Phoebe Dynevor, the adaptation of Julia Quinn’s novel captivated viewers to shatter Netflix’s viewership records with 82 million households having seen at least a portion of it in the first four weeks. The success of the series catapulted Page into the James Bond conversation.

The SAG Award nomination adds to a list of critical recognition for Coel’s raw I May Destroy You, in which she portrays a woman piecing together the events of a night in which she was xesually assaulted. The series, an honest exploration of xesual consent, recently won Best Ensemble Cast in a New Scripted Series at the Independent Spirit Awards, though there is no equivalent category for limited series at the SAG Awards.

Dark comedy Dead To Me expanded its SAG Award footprint in Season 2 after scoring one nomination last year for Applegate. Its three SAG Award nominations mirror similar nominations the show’s second season received at the Emmys, Outstanding Comedy Series and two Lead Actress in a Comedy series noms for Applegate and Cardellini.

I am shocked at the Bridgerton nominations. Was not expecting that at all. I'm happy for Michaela. Surprised Kerry got one too.

No Zendaya here either. M&M didn't make any dent in the industry. The SAGs are peer awarded, so I'm surprised she isn't here. She got an entire Emmy and has a massive push.

It's strange as hell that even something as prestigious as an Emmy isn't garnering her industry support with all this campaigning. Where did her Emmy voters go? Very weird.

Bridgerton is sh!t. I’m sorry, it’s so overrated. I watched it and was like ‘is that it?’ Very predictable. I’m just happy for Rege finally getting his shine, I’ve been following him since Roots. I May Destroy You deserves a nom. Still can’t believe mid ass TV like Emily in Paris got a Golden Globe nom. Netflix must have bought that nomination to boost the show smh.

- Michaela deserves it.
- Happy for Regina and the cast of ONIM too.
- From what I heard, JATBM deserved a best ensemble nomination too. And Dominique too.
- We need more non-white women in comedies because yeesh.
- I know I said that Jared Leto was the best actor in The Little Things but wth? Being the best thing in a hot garbage movie isn't award-worthy.
- I really wonder who will win the Oscar between Frances and Viola
- I'm glad that Daveed got the nomination and not LMM because he's legit the worst actor in Hamilton. Brilliant writer/composer, but come on!

The Bridgerton noms make sense to me. These are actors voting for other actors here. Plus it's just 2 nominations.

Nothing about those Golden Globe nominations made sense.

I'll be really shocked if Chadwick doesn't snag an Oscar posthumously. The awards circuit shows his performance is loved by critics.

Rege getting a nom should not be surprising, he's the breakout from Bridgerton and while the writing was weak on that show he did enough with his part to have millions of people sweating over him.

Micaela deserves to win everything she's nominated in and be nominated for even more.

I really wonder who will win the Oscar between Frances and Viola

I’m going to go for a wildcard here and say Carey Mulligan. Frances has already won twice (and very recently) and Ma Rainey was Chadwick’s show. Viola could’ve won again in supporting but I’m not seeing it for lead. There’s a lot of passion for Promising Young Woman (boosted by the Globe noms) and Carey has been sweeping up critic awards.

Michaela deserves all the awards for I May Destory You. I don't think I've ever seen a show dive into rape culture and the trauma of xesual assault so well. And with black leads?
Not only Michaela but they also snubbed Lovecraft Country! Aunjunae Ellis, Jurnee Smollet and Wunmi Mosaku deserve nominations. I cried about every EP of Lovecraft and I May Destory You.

He's deserving don't get me wrong but the somewhat painful irony of this is... I don't think if he WAS here, he'd be getting as many noms knowing these voters.
I think he would still get a nomination for Ma Rainey’s
