She’s one of those people who expects clients to wash, cut, color and curl their own hair before arriving to the salon...

She’s doing the most. All she has to do is charge an extra fee for washing or just tell the client she can’t service them if their hair isn’t washed

If all she does is install weaves or braids, then she shouldn't call herself a stylist. An actual stylist should be capable and willing to do a full service then be paid accordingly.

A lot of these “stylists” are just the girls who didn’t want to attend high school for the full day. Most of these stylists in these chairs are immature, lazy and have nasty attitude and just want $300 to do stunt on instagram with. The older hair stylists who actually care for hair especially natural type 4 are a rare sight.

IF you can't go to a stylist to get your hair washed where the hell could you go?

If I gotta wash, cut, color, style, twist, decorate, bring my own combs and cape and promote your business imma just stay my ass at home, BoojieShay.

I can understand if the service is braids but anything else I'm going to need you to wash my hair! I'm tired of stylists guilt tripping customers "I don't get health insurance" or "I have to work long hours,so I need an assistant" smh

That is being lazy. Prices have gone up, so that should automatically include a wash and set. (Is she slow?)

Back in the day $50 got a wash, set, trim, style, etc. If I am paying for a service, I should get full treatment.

She’s ass backwards and ghetto af.

“Prices went up,” but you not increasing the quality of your service. I’ve never had a positive experience with a “stylist” so I do my own hair. Nail techs and hair stylists have the worst attitudes.

Getting you hair/ nails done was supposed to be therapeutic and people turned it into a “get money quick with minimal experience and etiquette,” scheme.

My stylist is $60 for that! She owns her own shop, has people working there, and ALL of that and yet she doesn't be mad. I've NEVER had an issue with an actual hair stylist not wanting to wash my hair. Even when I had my hair done by women hustling on the side, doing my hair in their kitchen/living room they NEVER had a problem with washing my hair. But then again I don't mess with these new school, social media "stylists" either. All my stylists have been doing hair since the 90s and early 2000s.

Is it the trend now for hairstylists to be all over social media proudly declaring everything they do not do or...?

“You need to come with your hair washed, conditioned, deep conditioned, steamed, fully trimmed, then split-end search and destroy trimmed, blow-dried, stretched, silk-pressed and edges laid before I even touch your head and if you are 17 seconds late I will cancel the appointment even if I arrived 40 minutes late and spent another 25 minutes eating lunch while on the phone, at which point you will have to pay an £85 cancellation fee in cash and you will have to rebook another appointment on my impossible to navigate booking website.”

For real, these social media hair stylists seem like they won't do anything but LOOK at your hair and post pics of it on IG so that more unsuspecting victims can book them to...not do much of anything. I'm glad I have my mom's network of stylists, meaning older 40s/50s or at least have some younger stylists in the shop who learned from the older generation.

The title is the opposite of what I saw on that tweet. (Can’t see the insta) The stylist is saying clients have filthy scalps.

Hair washing is part of hygiene.

How are y’all not washing your scalps between visits?

The smell alone...

ETA- is she really not wanting to wash hair? She must come from a huayt salon.

It is lazy, especially if someone is paying you for a service.

It's usually the ones who do not have a license that are working in someone else's shop doing all of this. It's not a craft to them anymore. It's a quick way to make money.

Luckily for me, my cousin does my weaves/wigs and my aunt owns her own shop and does my natural hair. I just don't have the time for these rude people and all of their rules.

Lazy, unskilled, unprofessional and unsanitary. You're gonna put clean tools on hair that has not been washed by a professional? Then use those tools on the next head too? The price has gone up but you're doing less? Make THAT make sense.

Yeah, I be seeing these LONG ass rules lists and then I go look at the work and it's not even that good. Acting like they are all VIP and sh!t for some work that a teenager from the high school down the street could probably do better.

I kind of agree with her. She could have worded it differently and not so harsh. Like one poster above said, she should just charge a fee for washing hair

How is she trying to justify prices going up with lesser services? She sounds stupid. Calling yourself a "stylist" and not doing a basic task of your job is lazy no matter which way you try to cut it. If you want to charge extra, then do so - but simply not wanting to is lazy & subpar, sis.

This is why I will never understand the popularity of these kitchen-to-Instagram stylists with their able-bodied clientele. It all seems like a headache and a waste of money.

lol this is why i do my OWN installs now. Once you learn to cornrow, installing is EASY! THe braid-up is the hardest part.

LMAO I wish I was a clown that would spend $300 on a sew in

It has nothing to do with laziness. Most of today's "stylists" don't wash hair because they can't legally do so. You don't have to have a license to braid hair or install weaves, but you do need one to wash hair. It sounds stupid, but that's why a lot of stylists are asking that you come washed and blowdried.

LOL funniest part is that they work out of their ghetto dirty ass apartments and stay doing "specials" because they can't fill seats! If you were such a good stylist you'd have a SALON and a PRODUCT LINE a la Vidal Sasoon, Federick Fekkai, DryBar etc.

but NOPE unfortunately these hood rats lack common sense and business acumen. There's no reason these girls should be pulling 75K a year if they had better decorum.

Notice that there is NO regionally/nationally franchised Black hair salon, like Fantastic Sams or Smart Cuts for yt ppl??

They can’t do shampoos because they have dirty dishes in the sink at their house at all times. They don’t want you in their dirty kitchens with your dirty kitchen.

Haha these stylist wanna charge more and do less than what the "back in the day" stylist used to do (still do if they are still stylist). These girls can't do nothing but glue a wig to a head or stich on some weave. Ask them to do an up do... Ask them what's the best thing to use for your damaged ends... As them to give you a cute cut that suits your face... They can't do that.

Then she's not a hair stylist, something that basic shouldn't be a big deal.

Did she go to school? Does she even have a license?

This is why I only go to someone with a license, although they can be rude and unprofessional also.

This has been the norm for years. I went to a shop with a licensed stylist and was actually shocked that he was going to wash my hair! He said there was no way he would do someone’s hair and not wash it first.

However I’ve learned that I really don’t want some of these stylist washing my hair. I’ve had some use products not suitable for my hair, causing major shrinkage, then trying to comb my thick ass 4c hair with a rat tail comb!

Bring back old school hair shops!!

This really irks my soul especially because the hair shop i been going to since middle school has finally closed. It was one of the few black salons left that truly did real hair, press and curl, trims, all for under $50.

These new young stylists are something else and yes they are lazy af! I was looking around for some stylists the other day for braids(the lady i go to normally was taking time off) and was annoyed by the prices, the excessive rules, and deposits. I just got so turned off by all these requirements just to get your hair done. And not of these shops offered services for your real hair either!

A wash and press is now $80 after renaming it a silk press. A trim is $15. Everything is a la carte service. Idk what Im gonna do bc my hair stylist is moving too. And i dont wanna go to these young stylists who dont wanna do anything!
