Roy Jones Jr., needs to retire from boxing. Thats all there is to it. Period, explanation point, end of story, whatever. After getting brutally knocked out by Enzo Maccarinelli in Russia on Saturday yes, the greatest boxer on the planet in the 1990s (and one of the best of all time) is reduced to fighting off American TV in countries far from home that much should be clear.
Jones, at the age of 46, had built a nice winning streak, fighting guys youve never heard of in places far off the mainstream boxing map. Fighting people like Courtney Fry in Latvia, Hany Atiyo in Russia and Eric Watkins in Concord, North Carolina, Jones whos still very visible in the sport as a color analyst for HBO had won eight-straight bouts. The last time he lost, in fact, was in 2011.
But Maccarinelli, a former cruiserweight world champion in his own right, proved either too tall (hes 6-foot-4 to Jones 5-11) or too experienced or too dangerous (Marracrinelli is only 35 and obviously still packs a punch).

For anybody who once loved watching Jones fight and that should be everybody reading this article of a certain age the following footage is quite disheartening.

Its not like Maccarinelli is still a top-flight fighter. The only thing worse than Jones chin in this fight was Maccarinellis ability to take a punch. He hasnt been relevant in years, and the way he dispatched Jones with such ease shows us that Jones might not even be a C-level fighter any more.
