Top 10 Countries With More Men Than Women

countries with more men than women
Top 10 Countries by % of men in population
About 40 countries across the globe have more men than women. Most of these countries are located in Asia, with a few countries in Europe and West Africa. The percentage varies from 50.1% to 75%. The Arabian Peninsula countries are where men far outnumber women.

1. Qatar

Male residents account for up to 75% of the population in Qatar. Qatar, located on f’s northeastern coast, has a population of about 2.8 million people, of which 2.1 million are male. According to the World Bank, the proportion of men in Qatar rose from 64.5% in 2003 to 76.7% in 2011, before dropping to 75% in 2019

The skewed gender ratio in Qatar is mainly because of immigration. Of the country’s total population, over 80% are foreigners, mainly from South Asian countries like India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Most of the foreigners coming into the country are male laborers seeking to work in construction sites and industries.

2. The United Arab Emirates

Foreign male workers in Dubai. The city witnesses a high immigration of men from countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, India who arrive in UAE in search of work and better pay opportunities.
The UAE, located on the eastern part of the peninsula, has a population of about 9.9 million people as of 2020. Of the total population, 6.8 million or 69% are men. The country has experienced a mixed growth in the proportion of men over the years. According to recent data, the proportion of men has been declining in the last decade (from 74.8% in 2010). The UAE had the world’s highest proportion of men between 1994 and 2008.

Like Qatar, immigrants and expatriates in the UAE account for over 85% of the total population. At 21.71, the country has the world’s highest net migration rate. Most immigrants coming into the country are males seeking to work in industries created by the booming oil.

3. Oman

Oman, another Arabian Peninsula country, has a population of approximately 4.8 million people, of which 3.2 million or 66% are male. About 2 million people in the country are immigrants and expatriates. Omani’s fast-growing economy, dependent on oil, has attracted many foreigners, mostly males from India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.

Oman also has a young population, with 43% under the age of 15. Slightly more males (1.05/female) are born, and the majority survive to adulthood. There are 110 males for every 100 females between 15 and 24 years and 138 males for every 100 males between ages 25 and 54.

4. Bahrain
319DFA94-30AD-4CCC-B720-ABEDFB64A7CC.jpeg

Bahrain is geopolitically part of the Arabian Peninsula. It is Asia’s third-smallest country by area and has a population of about 1.6 million people. Bahrain’s population is highly skewed, with men accounting for 64%. According to the World Bank, the proportion of men in the country is rising steadily, from 61.6% in 2014 to 64% in 2019

Over 50% of the people living in Bahrain are expatriate communities. Indians, especially from Kerala, are the largest non-nations, accounting for close to 50% of the immigrant community. Besides immigration, more males than females are registered at birth, with the majority of the males surviving to adulthood.

5. Maldives

The Maldives is a small country in South Asia with a population of 516,000 people. However, the majority of the population (63%) are males, making it the country with the highest male proportion outside of the Arabian Peninsula. The Maldives is a patriarchal or male-dominated society, with a preference for boys/men. Only a few women hold key positions in government.

Apart from being a male-dominated society, Maldives is also home to 178,000 immigrants and expatriates. The non-locals account for about 34% of the total population. The majority of these immigrants are male workers from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, and Nepal.

6. Kuwait

Kuwait, located on the Arabian Peninsula, has a population of about 4.5 million people, of which about 3 million are expatriates. Expatriates and immigrants account for over 70% of the Kuwaiti population. Most of these expatriates are male workers attracted to the country by the rich oil-driven economy.

Kuwait has the world’s 6th largest oil reserve and its currency is the world’s highest-valued currency. The expatriates are mostly men because the majority come from Arab countries where it is the responsibility of the male to provide for his household.

7. Saudi Arabia

D7DC2835-6D47-4EDA-8E1C-288F5FC44841.jpeg

Saudi Arabia is the largest country on the Arabian Peninsula, with a population of about 34 million people, including about 10 million non-nationals. The proportion of men in the country is increasing steadily, but at a slower rate, from 54% in 2000 to 58% in 2019.

Saudi Arabia is a gender-segregated country, with strict restrictions on women’s rights and freedoms. Most women are under the guardianship of men who control every aspect of their lives from birth to death.

Other countries with a significantly large proportion of men are Equatorial Guinea (56%), Bhutan (53%), and Djibouti (53%).

Consequences Of Having More Men Than Women

There are several negative consequences of having more men than women in a country. Having more men means women have people to marry them. However, it makes it harder for the extra men to find mates. Thus, the extra men may not have families in the future.

In some countries with more men, especially the Arabic countries like Saudi Arabia, there are serious discriminations against women. Because society favors men, the women are restricted to taking care of homes with little involvement in political leadership and development issues.

Lol!

I feel like a lot of countries where men outnumber women, the men are extremely aggressive and oppressive. I would never even go on a short vacation to most of the countries on the list.

Are you planning to become Muslim and adhere to their lifestyle and the countries strict rules if you go live there? If not then you are wasting your time lol

And even if you do, your past would be held against you by the men, their families, and the community as well as your current mindset.

I realize this is tongue-in-cheek but whatever, best of luck!

Just reflecting after reading about the top 10 countries and the countries from where most of the foreign workers originate in those top 10 and...

...LOL. I'd pass.

I visited the Indian Ocean and while outside of the peninsula, many countries there have some serious lifestyle changes to get used to. And even if not living there, we all bring our culture with us wherever we go.

I saw Papua New Guinea on the list and remember reading that they have one of (the?) worst domestic violence rates in the world, for women specifically. That's saying A LOT. I don't even want to travel there; foreign western workers have frequently disappeared while out there.

Right. In those countries, you'll get the usual trashy behavior plus the state sanctioned abuse that comes with it. Yay! e2

Samoa you say?

I had a nice visit there. Main island only. It was beautiful, but for living, if you are looking for a wide variety of things to do beyond a few outdoorsy stuff, ehhhh.
Also island costs...well, for many of us, it would be a real lifestyle change.

Yes
the men are extremely aggressive and oppressive. I would never even go on a short vacation to most of the countries on the list.
That would never happen because women as a group cater and change themselves for men. Men don't really do the same with women. Maybe individual men. So your dream to act like a man is falling short.

And of course most of those countries are middle eastern. A lot of them have problems with raping women and killing baby girls which is why a lot of them barely have women. It’s a no from me

Be very, very careful about flocking to a largely Muslim country and expecting true love. You have to accept their strict religious interpretations, which means that you aren't supposed to leave the house without head-to-foot wrap and your husband's permission, you don't participate in social activities outside the home, you can't swim (in a hot desert climate), and your husband is your guardian meaning that what he says goes. He can take other wives. Unless you can adapt, you will suffer.

LMAOOO you guys play too much here!

Nah but for real.. I just got back from UAE and i was pleasantly surprised. Huge multi racial expat communities that largely stick to themselves. And then the black man expats from the UK/US that do the typical sh!t with their kim kardashian lookalike girlfriends etc. But i will say i got some love from the arab zaddies out there.

Id say the male to female ratio is only in our benefit if you dont mind dating lower wage workers. The competition is still on when you are talking successful and moneyed arabs

4. Bahrain View attachment 3152015

View attachment 3152016

As a young woman from Papua New Guinea, I wouldn't date a Papua New Guinean man either lmaooo. Unless he is as agreeable and lovely as my Dad who is the best.

The reason why their are so much men in the Gulf states is because they basically import their entire construction labor force from India, Indonesia, Bangladesh etc and take their passports so they can’t leave and forced to work in awful conditions until they die from exhaustion or heat stroke. If that wasn’t bad enough many of the recruiting companies promise high wages so to them it makes sense to take out a loan to travel to the job, but end up getting paid much less so that they’re also stuck in debt too. So yeah this post is a little tone death.

Oh dear lol
The only countries on that list I took seriously are the ones I’d actually like to visit on my next travels,
starting with the countries nearest me - Norway & Luxembourg I’ll view those beautiful northern lights, the forest reserves & enjoy some other tall, Scandinavian delights…as I just love climbing!
Then maybe hop over to Ghana to meet some of my friends’ relatives
& then be near my Caribbean fam in St Vincent for Carnival,
Then Fiji & The Maldives,
purely for the exotic retreat.

The rest of that mostly Arab/Asian list are definitely giving potential misogyny overload
esp in terms of dating..

Don't even bother. All of the countries in the list are lion dens to women except Norway. Stay away from Arab men if you love your life and sanity.
