Anyone else have an insatiable appetite on their period?

The crazy thing about it is it sneaks up on me EVERY TIME. I’ll literally be eating like my fourth meal of the day like “cotDAYUM. did I really eat all that? I could still go for some ice cream & french fries though”

Then the next day or two, WITHOUT FAIL my period starts. As soon as it ends, my appetite goes back to normal. It’s so damn annoying! On top of my boobs swelling to pregnancy levels I literally feel like a blimp on my cycle. I’m so over menstruating. I wish there was a way to make it permanently stop.

P.S. Doc already checked for fibroids due to heavy PMS/periods - no dice. To my knowledge, no PCOS or endo. My periods are manageable on BC but they were horrible before.

Yes. Before, and during it. When I begin eating everything that isn't nailed down, I know my period is very close by.

Yup, it’s very normal. I also get very hungry the day after ovulation. But the news is, your body burns more calories during your cycle which is why you are so hungry.

I get cravings, but right when it starts everything I eat makes my cramps 100x worst. I make sure not to eat anything heavy the day before it starts.

Yes! I want all the greasy, fatty fries foods. Like stoneresque foods that dont make any sense. Afterward that 3 day spiral I'm like wtf!?!?

We're biologically wired to want salt and chocolate during this time. :) Don't beat yourself up over it. If you remember to drink some water and eat some salad during your cycle that's good enough. You can still eat pizza and Reese's Pieces, but try to get in some water and greens. Supposed to help ease your period. I don't always do right but I try. I'll have greasy lasagna that my mother made and my drink of choice is Coke, but I'll throw in salad too.

Pizza...soul food platters....shhh...tour of italy....wings for no reason, bread at all hours

About 72 hours later....she comes...all is back to normal...lots of water and stomach back flat...3.5 weeks later...it begins again...sigh

I'm the opposite. Food goes right through me when my period is about to come on. And on that first day, I have very little appetite at all. Anything I eat just upsets my stomach.

There have been slanderous allegations made regarding my trustworthiness to be left around food unsupervised at a certain time of the month, yes.

Usually. But as I get got older I now lose my appetite during my period but get really hungry before and after it.

It’s specifically chocolate with me and I have to have it. The more I put it off, the worse my period gets. Oddly enough, I can only stomach the chocolate for the first 3/5 days. Any day after that and my body doesn’t want it !

Yes, and it's annoying as hell. I get super hungry in general the week before, and then during my period I specifically crave fatty foods and sweets. It especially sucks because I'm usually more fatigued during my period so it's harder for me to get up and go to the gym.

I'm sure I'm singlehandedly keeping ubereats alive with the way I abuse them when I'm on my period/ovulating.

I'm talking multiple orders in one day. :cry:

When I was younger, I could barely eat anything on my cycle but now, I want EVERYTHING before, during and slightly after it sucks tbh.

Yup. I just tore up some chicken wangz and fries with BBQ sauce from the hood Chinese spot. Keep in mind that I this is the first time in like 4 yrs I've eaten from the hood Chinese take out lol.
I'll get the most random cravings. However, I do know when I eat the bad stuff it makes my cramps 100x worse, so I'll only partake in these cravings a few days into my cycle. Can't do it before my cycle...

I'll be in the kitchen at 3 AM, sneaking in my third dinner of the night, bloated, worried about my inevitable obesity.

Then a few days later I realize it was just my period lol

Apparently you burn more calories and lose more water on your period. Especially if you have anemia. So I just let myself eat what I need, but it is annoying when it interferes with my diet.

I drink a ton of water and eat lots of protein and iron rich foods and it helps otherwise I'd be going through crazy amounts of junk food

I'm on some kind of progesterone since end of January, so no period for me (I have endo torus uterinam). Before, I would get so HUNGRY the days before and very thirsty the day prior. Gosh! But I would always wait for the D-day to succumb to anything and everything I want! For 24 hours, it would be unhealthy, greasy, salty and sweet food only... that I would order. No cooking allowed at that time of the month. It truly was an experience. And the worst part would be that what I usually like eating would make me so nauseous like tomato sauce or mint tea or even my favorite almond croissants.

Kind of the same thing happened when I started the progesterone. I was disgusted by meat and too seasoned food. I was craving for vegan and bland food :cry Since then I have incorporated more vegan options in my diet.

Yes it’s probably an iron deficiency if you are black. My periods are so minor that I forget I’m even on it thanks to my diet but I’m always hungry like a goat on it.

I’m literally in the middle of this right now OP. I woke up this morning and had a bowl of papaya with Chile and lime (I never eat breakfast lol). Then after I was dressed I still felt hungry so I ate like half a bag of chips with leftover guacamole. I got to my office and had a fruit bar but I’m STILL HUNGRY.
now I’m sitting at my desk contemplating what to eat during my lunch break :/

Same here, like someone posted that sh!t is unexpected. What’s worse is that I sleep so much too. So over this sh!t.

My sweet tooth is out of this world on my period. I could drink a bucket of syrup and it will not be enough. It’s so annoying!
