I'm apparently insulin resistant and gained a bunch of weight I'm having a hard time losing after I was bedridden by a bad accident and went on an antidepressant that made me bloat the fµck up overnight. Totally stalled out after quickly losing the first 15 pounds when I discontinued the medication.

I'm not at all diabetic, but was recently prescribed Ozempic (and metformin, earlier) -- they're used off-label to suppress hunger and control weight in insulin resistant people (and apparently women with PCOS).

I just started the Ozempic but it seems like my diet actually works when I'm on it, and I'm starting to lose some. Anyone have any experience with these meds for reasons other than diabetes? I HATE the idea of taking medications like this, generally, but I'm willing to use any help I can get right now.

I gained almost 20 lbs in a MONTH on Zoloft and I am only 5'5". Note I was taking spin classes and did not change my eating either.

I will say though some of my friends went on it and gained nothing so everyone is different. It was very effective for my mood, too. Made me forget a serious trauma.

What antidepressant had you bloated.

My sister's BD took them because he was pre-diabetic. He lost a good amount of weight. I told not to lose anymore or he'll start to look crackish.

I've heard of this. A lot of drugs will make you gain weight with no change in lifestyle habits. Great question. I am going to bump this one up.

Hmm....my A1c was prediabetic. Let me see if my PCP will prescribe this and get me looking right!

If you take metformin ask for the extended release — much easier on your stomach

Ozempic is a really new drug. I take the injectable

Long term use of metformin may cause kidney failure, I will attach a few scientific journal articles about it later...please be careful when going on the medication. Try reducing carbs and IF to lower insulin levels naturally first (y)

My doctor put me on it last year after I gained weight on my antidepressant. The 6 week sample was great. I hated needles but it didn’t hurt and once I began to see a change I loved my shot. I felt like I was in control again. Unfortunately I couldn’t afford my endocrinologist, the shot itself, and a psychiatrist for my antidepressants so I got off the ozempic. Metformin just had my stomach messed up smh.

I’m not diabetic nor prediabetic but I do have insulin resistance. I went back to the doctor yesterday and he got me back on Ozempic. I also tried rybelsus way back when.

Here Ozempic is really expensive which I explained and he said most of his patients order it from Canada now *side eye*. There’s an online prescription service. You sign up, give your dr your customer number and then have them send the Rx to that website. You pay for your script every refill just like you would at your local pharmacy and they ship it to you. Many of his patients do it this way and it’s legal.

I’ll be ordering mine around the 15th since I have a 6 week sample.

If you are on the .25 or .5mg dosage of Ozempic the price is $25 per month or $75 3 month if your insurance doesn’t cover the entire price. The website has a coupon.
The 1mg dosage is for weight loss and not covered by insurance.

I am on .5mg once a week and CVS is refilling my scripts so often I may titration myself up to 1mg to see how it works for weight loss.

Wasn't a higher dose version of Ozempic just approved for weight loss by the FDA this week?

Bump... I'm interested in hearing more about people's experiences with ozempic.

I got my doctor to prescribe qsymia which has been working for me because the metformin makes me sick but I have 30 more lbs I have to drop for my health and pcos makes it extremely difficult to lose any weight. With a restricted calorie diet and exercising for several hours 6 days a week over the last month and a half I've dropped 15 lbs. But qysmia is expensive.

I use to take metformin. I asked to have it renewed but my doctor said no because apparently being in your 30's is to old to be taking it....

I just started ozempic.it’s so confusing. How do you know if you injected yourself properly?

Do you hear it click when you get to the end ? You can also watch youtube videos to show that you are doing it correctly.
I didn’t I pushed the needle in at my dosage amount. Then I had to turn it back to zero.

this is my first time smh

Checking in... I started Ozempic and this stuff is a game changer for me. Metformin was helping me maintain but it makes me sick, even the extended release version. I was already eating a healthy diet but my weight kept yo-yo'ing due to my insulin levels. With ozempic, vitamins and moderate exercise I'm down another 10 lbs in 3 weeks. It's just hella expensive and there have been shortages lately so it's hard to get. Keep fighting for your health ladies and don't give up hugs

I’m on my third 0.25 dose. I’m down 4 lbs, however I’m going to kick it up a bit and work out and eat a little cleaner.

What kind of doctor prescribes this? Endocrinologist or just regular primary care?

Everyone probably already knows this but the 1mg dosage is covered by insurance now if your doctor can justify you needing it. The weight lose stopped for me but my A1c has been steadily going down. If I cut out more carbs I can get under 6.0 which was my last number.

what Canadian website is this for cheaper rx's? I have a few I have to pay for and would love a cheaper option.

My endocrinologist. I recommend starting there because he gave me 3 months of free samples before I ever had to buy a prescription.

I don't have insulin resistance or high blood sugar but I am risk for them. I do however have high cholesterol, so I've been changing my diet to address it without creating blood sugar issues. I saw that the supplement berberine has some evidence that it helps lower LDL but a LOT of evidence in helping prediabetes and diabetes. I spoke with a licensed nutritionist about it and she said there were many studies supporting the use of berberine for diabetes and some for high cholesterol (I've been using it now for only a week so far too soon to tell if it's having a positive affect). I'd speak with your doctor about using it.

How are you doing on Ozempic now? My endocrinologist just started me last week. What vitamins do you take?

How did you like Rybelsus? Did you get results?

Ozempic didn’t do much for me. I had nausea but still never felt super full like everyone else experienced. It was an eye-opener for me. There is NO shortcut for my issue…which is overeating and not eating the best. I have to simply change my diet.

Currently on Ozempic for weight loss purposes, not diabetes. It's diminished my appetite to almost nothing which is great but also a bit sad and frustrating, especially during social events. I had a graduation dinner last night and barely ate anything, so little that the busboys took everyone else's plates but left mine lol. It feels very reminiscent of my early post-op days after getting WLS (no I didn't regain the weight, the ozempic is for the last 40 lbs I'd like to lose).

I took my 3rd dose yesterday & am down 10 pounds so far. Planning to be on it for the rest of the year to hit my ultimate GW. :emoji_eye:

It’s working well for you!
I’m on my 5th or 6th week and have barely lost 8lbs. No side effects except for fatigue while I adjust. About to start my .50 dose tonight. Doctor told me I probably won’t see weight loss till the 1 or 1.5 dose.

I’m trying to go from 185-135 but I do have diabetes. I pay around $10 per pen after insurance.

I’m taking semaglutide for weight loss and so far I don’t feel any appetite suppression and no weight loss. I moved from 25mg to 50mg and nothing. Maybe I’ll finally feel a difference when I hit 1 mg

I've been on saxenda and also using the medi weight loss program. Lost 20 lbs in 5 weeks and feel great. It cut my appetite to nothing, so I have to make myself eat
Had my weigh in on Saturday and I'm right on track for my goals. I did get told though to eat a little more (protein) because although I do it, the nurse said I wasn't eating enough. So, following all instructions. Both were the tools I needed to jump start this lose.
