So as I was doing some research for another thread, I decided to peruse Billboard to check Anthony Hamilton's success. I had no idea he had FOUR #1s and ELEVEN Top 10s! Not because I don't think he deserved it, but because so many female R&B artists don't have the same success, especially the younger ones. The most successful ones are from the 90s (Brandy, Monica and Erykah) and many of their hits are from the 90s. The newer ones are successful, but not as successful as Anthony (Jill Scott, India Arie, Ledisi, Vivian Greene). It almost feels like RnB is a dying genre but his last #1 was only 4 years ago (its not in this screenshot, but it is on Billboard.com)...so whose chart success have you been sleeping on?

Wow! Congrats to Anthony Hamilton I've always liked his music.

Coming From Where I'm From is the soundtrack of the summer when my husband and I started dating. I can't hear any of the songs without reminiscing. Fortunately things worked out for us because I would probably hate Anthony's voice if we broke up lol. We played that CD soooooo much

Truth be told....Rihanna. I thought she’d be a one hit wonder. I still don’t think she has the musical talent that matches her fame. She can’t sing well live, can’t dance, and has zero showmanship.......whenever I saw her perform I always wondered how she ever got signed with so little talent. She is literally a model who can sing a little tune.

LOL. Now that you mention it, I haven't seen her dance a lot... She has worked with talented producers that know what will catch for radio play.

Rihanna is also charismatic, relatable, and makes songs that people love. Same with britney, cardi, and drake. If you can produce songs that people love, you'll be fine regardless of talent. That formula surprisingly works well. Taylor started underperforming when she stopped being relatable.
